Disney is in the middle of some pretty serious battles and things could get worse soon.

Disney has filed a federal lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the new board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly Reedy Creek Improvement District) alleging that the actions recently taken against Disney are all retaliation for Disney’s statements against the Parental Rights in Education Bill. The board responded with a state court lawsuit of its own, and some bills in Florida could impact the way the monorail is inspected in Disney World or whether certain key Disney agreements are enforceable. But now one particular threat against Disney has resurfaced.
Ever notice how not many planes simply zoom over Disney World during your vacation? That’s because there are certain no-fly zones over Disney World and Disneyland that prevent aircraft from flying over the parks. The no-fly zones have been in place since 2003, in the interest of safety as well as guest enjoyment. But now one congressman is looking to take away Disney’s no-fly zones.

He called for the U.S. House of Representatives to reconsider whether these no-fly zones were appropriate and insisted, “Major corporations should not get unreasonable privileges just because they have the ability to bankroll Congress, especially when they are trying to force their ideology on our children.”

An act addressing the no-fly zone privileges was introduced previously, and now Nehls has reintroduced the bill.
The bill is called the Airlines Independent of Restrictions (AIR) Act, and it would take away Disney’s no-fly zone statuses in Disney World and Disneyland, allowing commercial aircraft to fly over the parks as they please.

According to Nehls’ website, Nehls argues that “Disney is the only theme park in the United States that benefits from the restriction for the commercial gains of eliminating banner ads and disruptive aircraft from their parks. Most flight-restricted areas in the United States are over places of high security or hazardous regions.”
Nehls has said that “theme parks like Disney should not receive special treatment just because they are well-connected. Our national security should not be compromised to fit the needs of one corporation.”

One of the original co-sponsors of the bill, Lauren Boebert — a representative from Colorado — said “Woke corporations shouldn’t get any favors from the government.”
She continued, “The FAA has no business granting a no-fly-zone over Disney parks. Universal Studios, Hershey Park, Six Flags, and other theme parks don’t have no-fly-zones over them, and it’s time for Disney to get the same treatment. No corporation should get preferential treatment from the government—especially when it is grooming children. Go woke, go broke.”

So what does this mean for Disney? Right now, we’ll have to wait and see. If passed, the bill would “direct the Secretary of Transportation to rescind the two ‘no-fly zone’ Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM’s) over Disneyland and Disney [W]orld.” The bill has been reintroduced but would need to pass both houses of Congress and be signed by the U.S. President to become law. We’ll be on the lookout for updates.

With everything going on in this country/state, this is what these “leaders” are going to use all their time and energy on?
I think the “FREE” State of Florida is the biggest HIPOCRISY going!! We were free to have the highest deaths from covid. We are free to have our children killed at schools by 18 year olds that can now carry a gun without checks. We are free to kill expectant mothers who have miscarriages and cant get medical care. We are Free to have the highest insurance rates in the nation but instead of Desantis working on these items he goes after the highest taxpayer and employer of the state because he disagrees with their Free right of speech…. Lifting No fly zone is just another way for retaliation. Books banned, history rewritten, what a joke tell me what’s free about living in Florida. We live in practically a communist state controlled by desantis and the Maga right with exception of guns they are a plenty anyone can carry no background checks, red flag laws, nothing. they are Not about to accept anyone that is different, reminds me of the Germans that also started with banning books and rewriting history. It’s a terrifying time to live in Florida and I’m white.
Actually Florida does have red flag laws, and every state has background checks because it is federal law. Florida is one of the most diverse states in the US. The only books being banned are ones that are sexually explicit, I don’t see how that is a bad thing.
I totally agree that the laws passed by the Florida legislature reminds me of Hitler’s rise to power. Now instead of working on the Debt ceiling, the republicans in Washington want to take away the no-fly zone over Disney parks. This is a safety issue, not a national security issue. The no-fly zone is due to all the fireworks and lasers that are used at the Disney parks. It is not to stop ads from flying over the parks. Universal Studios, Hersheypark, and other parks do not have fireworks every night nor do they use lasers during their fireworks shows.
