Disney magic doesn’t mean that things don’t sometimes go wrong in Disney Parks.
Sometimes, rides malfunction. Sometimes, rides close for technical issues. Sometimes, shows have problems. Sometimes things even catch on fire, which is what happened recently in Disneyland.
During a performance of Fantasmic! at Disneyland, the Maleficent Dragon caught fire and engulfed the dragon after Mickey shoots sparks at the dragon. This prompted the end of the show and the arrival of the Anaheim Fire Department.
The Maleficent dragon caught fire during the second showing of Fantasmic! at Disneyland Park on Saturday night.
It happened when Mickey shoots sparks at the giant dragon’s head. The Anaheim Fire Department responded to the scene.

Performances of Fantasmic! seem to have been suspended because of the fire. We checked showtimes on the Disneyland website and found that there are no performances listed from April 23rd through April 27th.
For a time, the calendar was updated and May 5th was the first date showing hours listed for available Fantasmic! performances. But that time seems to now be removed.
UPDATE: According to Scott Gustin (via Twitter) the show has been paused through at least May 14th. According to the Disneyland calendar, the first date that shows operating times for Fantasmic! appears to be May 19th.
NEW: Disneyland confirms Fantasmic is paused through at least May 14.

It’s unclear until then if the dragon will return to the show, or if it will somehow be modified.
We will keep an eye out for more updates about Fantasmic! in Disneyland, and keep you updated as we get more information. We do hope Maleficent is feeling better soon, though!
