You Have to See What This ‘Jaws’ Actor Does For a Living Now

If you know anything about us, you know we have some pretty big Jaws fans on our team (cough cough, it’s Molly — Molly is the main fan)!

We love hanging out with Bruce the shark at Universal Studios and checking out those hidden Jaws Easter eggs in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For us, it’s pretty exciting when anything happens in the Jaws Cinematic Universe, as the original movie did come out almost 50 years ago. And recently, something pretty cool just happened involving the iconic shark attack movie!

If you’ve seen the movie Jaws (and if you haven’t, what are you doing?!), you might remember the scene where two young boys cause panic about a shark in the water by swimming around with a fake shark fin.

Ahh, Shark!!!

One of the boys was played by Jason Searle, who was actually just offered the job of police chief in the town where Jaws was partially filmed! Searle is currently a sergeant with the Edgartown police, and was offered the job of police chief in Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, according to WESH.

“I’m clearly elated and I’m humbled and honored to have been offered the position,” Searle told the Vineyard Gazette, who first reported the news.

Have you seen this movie?

This is a pretty big full circle moment considering the police chief is a big character in the original Jaws story! The movie takes place in the fictional town of Amity Island, New York, but was actually filmed in various places on Martha’s Vineyard up in Massachusetts.

And, to add another layer to this full-circle moment — Searle’s father was actually the police chief in Edgartown, so he’s following in his footsteps. Searle will take over as chief in Oak Bluffs in June.
