The current CEO, Bob Chapek, helmed the company through the global health crisis and the response to new offerings during his time has been controversial. There have been rumors that previous CEO, Bob Iger, could return to the company — and now the retired Disney mogul has responded.

Iger recently appeared on The New York Times Sway podcast with host Kara Swisher to discuss retirement, Disney, and the direction of media as a whole.

During the podcast, Swisher questioned why now was the right time for Iger to retire to which he responded, “…I always wanted to leave when I felt like I still had it in me to do more, but that things were good and I didn’t want to tempt fate.”

“And I also didn’t want to get to a point where people at the company were saying, when is he finally going to go,” Iger continued, “And there are a couple of other factors.”

Later, Swisher directly addressed the rumors of Iger’s return, “There are rumors that you could become Disney’s CEO again.”

Iger’s response was, “Well, that’s ridiculous.” He continued to drive the point home noting, “I gave my I.D. up, my name tag up…My office, my email address— it’s all gone.”
