In the wake of limited capacity and closures, Disney has announced that they will be to laying off 28,000 employees.

Disney is in talks with employees currently to gauge what parts of the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products segment will be seeing job discontinuations. Multiple Cast Members and unions, like the Service Trades Council Union, have already started to provide information about the layoffs that will be happening over the coming months.
In a recent post to California’s Workers United Local 50 Facebook page, President Chris Duarte provided information on the layoffs that the union’s Cast Members would be receiving.

The post reads that the union doesn’t know know too many details at the moment but that they are “scheduled to meet with Disney in the coming days to get more information and bargain over the effects.” The Cast Members who will be subject to layoffs will be determined during these discussions.

However, Duarte also stated that “Notice of layoff to Local 50 members is set to occur November 1st. Non-union, salaried, and executive cast are starting to receive notice now. Actual termination dates will be set in the notice. At this time over 2500 Local 50 members are expected to be laid off.”

The Workers United Local 50 President concluded the statement with a reassuring note that, “We will get through this. We know everyone has a lot of questions. We will keep everyone posted with information as we figure this out.” As Disney continues to release details about the layoffs happening around the parks, resorts, and more, we’ll make sure to provide you with additional news.
