Give Thanks for Bananas

Light Meter by Lisa K. Berton

I would like to wish my fellow Americans a Happy Thanksgiving. I would like to wish those of you across the pond and other bodies of water a Happy Thursday. I’m up to my chin in cleaning supplies trying to get this place in order and unfortunately didn’t have time to write my weekly blog. Lo siento.

One of my photo pals suggested trees as our Disney Pic of the Week theme. I thought perhaps I’ll just go in my backyard, take a photo and call it a day. However, that darn little version of me who pops up on my shoulder gave me a guilt trip.

Cruising through the green house portion of Living with the Land, one can view fruits and vegetables (both echy and edible) growing out of pods, sand, and out of thin air. One such popular internationally recognized star of the fruit world (I’m going to copyright that intro) is the banana. It’s so popular, (How popular is it?) that is spawned Bananaman, Bananas in Pajamas, Chiquita Banana, and my favorite, the banana phone.

Here we see a banana tree stacked with banana after banana because a banana tree growing figs would be screwy.

See how they’re all green? They need to ripen before they’re perfect for devouring and then throwing on the ground in hopes of your arch nemesis coming along and slipping on it. Not that I’ve given it any thought or picked the smoothest part of the floor.

The easiest way to speed up the maturing process (this is nothing like waiting for cheese to stop telling bad jokes) is a trade secret. Turn the banana tree horizontal.

What a difference!
