Traveling Just Got Cheaper With This Vacation HACK!

Hey, we get it. Traveling is expensive, and it doesn’t seem like the prices are getting any cheaper. We might have just found a major hack for saving major cash.

Let’s go!

According to the Wall Street Journal, there are marketplaces that are selling non-refundable trips to other travelers at a steep discount.

Meet SpareFare, an “eBay-like marketplace that pairs unfortunate travelers looking to sell non-refundable trips, flights, and hotel nights.” You can purchase other travelers’ nonrefundable trips for a discount price.

Most buyers will buy their vacations for about 20% to 30% off their original price. One traveler bought a week-long, all-inclusive trip to Thailand for $1,200, which was originally priced at $4,700.

London Heathrow Airport

A 12% commission heads to SpareFare, and the rest of the funds go to the seller. To avoid scams, funds are held from the seller until after the trip.

This can be perfect for those who aren’t super picky about their travel plans but just want to head out, especially last minute. If you’re willing to wait until 48 before a trip, you might be able to find the best discounts.

Southwest at Orlando International Airport

The biggest sale on the marketplace so far was a two-week trip to an all-inclusive resort in Fiji for $33,000, down from the original price of $46,000.

Another company, Eluxit, focuses on selling ultra-expensive vacations. Unlike SpareFare, Eluxit will handle all the behind-the-scenes work, like switching names on tickets and coordinating all the details.

Orlando International Airport security

While this isn’t a new system, there are sometimes issues when switching over ownership. Sometimes asking to change names on tickets can trigger money laundering or human trafficking alerts, so it’s better to reach out to the airline and confirm changes.

It can be frustrating having to cancel a vacation, especially if it’s non-refundable. Instead of losing all the money, you can try to make some of it back through these sites.
