Happy grand opening day to Epic Universe to all who celebrate! It has been years in the making, and the day is finally here. While Epic Universe has been welcoming guests for previews, May 22nd marks the official opening date of this brand-new theme park.

Of course, we are at Epic Universe checking out the crowds and bringing you all the coverage. Surprisingly, wait times have been very low today. Mine-Cart Madness and Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge topped out at just 45 minutes. And most of the other attractions have stayed around 5 to 25 minutes.
However, one major ride closure today has put a bit of a wrench in the very low wait times. One of Epic Universe’s most popular attractions, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, didn’t open until 4 PM. Lots of people rushed to the attraction first thing this morning, with the wait time reaching up to 300 minutes in the app.

However, the ride never opened this morning, and many people lost precious time waiting in line. The attraction was delayed all morning long and FINALLY opened right after 3 PM.

The wait time quickly shot up; by 4 PM, it had already reached 240 minutes. That is a FOUR-HOUR line! It is by far the most popular attraction in the park today by leaps and bounds. When the attraction finally reopened, we could see almost the entire park start making their way towards the ride.

With the low wait times, many people had already been able to ride most other attractions, so lots of people were probably anticipating the opening of Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. However, except for Battle at the Ministry, Epic Universe has had a pretty great day operationally. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment went down briefly around 10 AM but reopened by 11 AM.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge went down around 5 PM as well. During previews, this attraction was also delayed a fair amount, so it is not surprising to see this ride go down. However, it had a very good run in the morning and afternoon. Besides that, all the other attractions have been operational and have posted low wait times.

While it can be frustrating when attractions are delayed, it will likely be part of your trip. Unfortunately, rides break down, have technical difficulties, or need to close for weather. The good news is that a ride being closed down doesn’t have to ruin your trip. You can monitor the app to see when the ride reopens and enjoy the rest of the park. There really is so much to see and do, you don’t need to waste it worrying about a closed ride!

We are continuing to monitor wait times at Epic Universe so you will always have the most up-to-date information. We have learned from Team Members that there has been a cap on tickets sold, and we will likely see the park start to ramp up in capacity as we move into the summer months. So, while opening day has been a pretty calm day, we are expecting to see wait times slowly climb up as more tickets are sold.
