NEWS: Anaheim Police Respond to False Reports of an Active Shooter at Disneyland Hotel

Scary and potentially dangerous situations can occur anywhere.

Yes, that includes the Disney Parks. However, when these situations arise, the surrounding police departments are quick to react and protect the community. An incident took place on December 21st, 2023 at Disneyland Resort. Here’s what you need to know.

The Orange County Register reports that on December 21st at approximately 6:10PM, the Anaheim Police Department received a call falsely reporting an active shooter at the Disneyland Hotel.

Tonight, at approximately 6:10 p.m., Anaheim PD Officers received a report of an active shooter at or near the Disneyland Hotel prompting a significant police response. Responding Officers quickly determined the report was a hoax.

The Anaheim PD responded with a “significant police response” immediately after the report was made, according to Anaheim Police Spokesperson Sgt. Jon McClintock.

However, when the police arrived with guns drawn, there was no active shooter or any evidence that alluded to a shooter being present. The police quickly determined that this was a “dangerous hoax.”

Officials reported that they believe the hoax was played by teenagers or young adults. As a result, the Fantasyland Tower at the hotel was affected, traffic was backed up, and officials say that there will be a precautionary increase in police presence at Disneyland.

Officers thoroughly checked the area and did not locate any evidence a shooting occurred. There is currently no threat to the Disneyland Resort or the surrounding area. There will be an increased police presence at the Disneyland Resort and surrounding area.
