“Great Scott!” It’s already been 40 years since Back to the Future was released?!

That’s right, Back to the Future is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To celebrate the milestone, both Universal Orlando AND Universal Studios Hollywood will be having a flashback to 40 years of Back to the Future this summer. Get ready for snacks, souvenirs, and MORE!
Back to the Future has left its mark as an all-time classic when it comes to movies. It even made an appearance at both Universal parks in the United States. You may or may not remember, but there used to be a Back to the Future ride. It is long gone now, but fans of the iconic movie still think about the ride to this day.

Back to the Future fans, get ready, because this summer at Universal is going to be filled with exclusive, limited-time food and merchandise offerings. There is lots to come on top of immersive theming around the parks. Let’s take a look at what fans can expect!

Are you ready for a new, retro-futuristic look? This exclusive merch line is filled with 40th anniversary-themed classics. For starters, show off your fandom with this Back to the Future 40th Anniversary License Plate.

Wait…is that Marty McFly’s hat we see? It sure is! You can rock the retro yet futuristic Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Hat. This iridescent, rainbow-colored cap with a flat brim is inspired by the one from the movie. Look cool while blocking the sun’s rays from your face!

Okay, so it might not be a real hoverboard, but we want this Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Hoverboard zipper pouch. You may not be able to ride it in style, but you can definitely wear it in style.

We keep seeing this “OUTATIME” top in all these promo photos. Is there one for us, too? Yes, there is! Get yourself a Back to the Future 40th Anniversary “OUTATIME” Tank. The white muscle tank features the beloved “OUTATIME” license plate design on the front. This will be the top everyone will be wearing at Universal this summer!

It’s been a hot summer so far, but how could we not get Marty McFly’s most iconic look!? Check out this new Back to the Future 40th Anniversary Puffer Vest. This vest zips open in the front and features a retro Back to the Future logo on the back. You’ll be seeing us in this ’til the 50th anniversary.

Now let’s talk tasty sweets and treats, because there are a few food items we can’t wait to try. Let’s start with a cold treat to cool you down this hot summer. Schwab’s Pharmacy in Universal Studios Orlando has new handcrafted Back to the Future shakes.

You’ll have choices between:
- Wake Up Juice (seen above on the left) — a milkshake blended with strawberry ice cream, a strawberry topping drizzle, and topped with whipped cream, strawberry crumbs, and a hint of cayenne
- Rock & Roll Shake (seen above on the right) — made with rocky road ice cream, this shake is blended with milk chocolate and marshmallow cream. It’s topped off with whipped cream, chocolate crumbs, and a chocolate guitar
These will be available through July 31st.

If you’re at Universal Studios Hollywood, stop by Mel’s Diner. You’ll be able to try:
- The Flux Capacitor Patty Melt — an all-beef patty topped with melted American cheese, caramelized onions, and thousand island dressing, served on Flux Capacitor-branded sourdough buns
- The Time Machine Melt — made with pastrami, Swiss cheese, and cabbage slaw on toasted sourdough with a “SPEED LIMIT 88” sign on top
- Doc Brown’s Chicken Pot Pie — a classic chicken pot pie with a cheesy twist, and the crust is dusted with crushed corn-cheese puffs
- The OUTATIME Cookie looks delicious. It’s a chocolate malt cookie made with chocolate chips and topped with flaming tire tracks and an “OUTATIME” license plate candy
- The Time Traveler’s Milkshake — made with sweet vanilla ice cream and blue raspberry sauce, while topped with whipped cream, blue silver sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry
- The Flux Capacitor — a bubbly drink made with lemon-lime soda, blue curaçao, and passionfruit juice
- Wake Up Juice — made with vodka, triple sec, peach nectar, orange and pineapple juices, and club soda.

Let’s talk photoshoots. You’ll need one to show off your new merch. Head to the Upper Lot near Mel’s Diner at Universal Hollywood. You can get photos next to the Time Machine and meet characters including Marty McFly, Doc Brown, and Einstein!

Over at Universal Orlando, Schwab’s Pharmacy has been completely transformed from its retro shop appearance into a Back to the Future-themed diner. This will last through July 31st, and we’re going to need pictures there… lots of pictures!

There’s going to be so much to do, eat, and buy during this celebration. Be on the lookout for the Time Machine and Doc himself next time you’re at the park. The new merchandise will be available while supplies last.

So, according to this piece, it appears that Wake Up Juice is the name given to not just one, but two very different anniversary beverages: A cocktail as well as a milkshake at Schwab’s. Odd name for a milkshake, but okay. You do you, Universal.
