The first of the new flights, a route to Munich, Germany launched on March 5th. The thrice-weekly route is operated by Discover Airlines.

On May 21st, Air France will begin offering direct flights between Paris to Orlando for the first time since 2012. The flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Finally, beginning on October 26th, Iberia Airlines will offer four weekly nonstop flights to Madrid, Spain on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Meanwhile, earlier this year Incheon International Airport (located in Seoul, South Korea) signed an agreement with the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and Osceola County with the goal of offering direct flights between Orlando and Seoul.

The new Munich, Paris, Madrid, and potential Seoul flights join a large roster of international cities serviced by the airport, which also includes Dublin, Ireland; Reykjavík, Iceland, and Edinburgh, London and Manchester in the United Kingdom. Overall, the airport offers nonstop flights over to 60 international destinations, including Europe, Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates

MCO’s push for further international flights has intensified in recent years, as the airport undergoes a massive expansion, which has included the construction of the $2.8 billion – – and somewhat internationally focused – – Terminal C.

According to Tim Giuliani, president and CEO of the Orlando Economic Partnership,“These new direct flights strengthen the Orlando region’s role as a global hub for business, trade, and innovation.”

The push for further nonstop international flights servicing MCO is likely to continue, though the airport is facing several hurdles. In addition to potential economic concerns stemming from the Trump administration’s tariff and travel policies, the airport is also somewhat hampered by the fact that the city isn’t a regional airline hub like Atlanta or Miami according to Nick Ewen, senior editorial director at The Points Guy,

As Ewan told the Orlando Sentinel, “That’s potentially what has limited Orlando’s opportunity to grab some of these international flights. The business case has to be there for that direct traffic, because most passengers that are going to be flying from, say, Paris or from Munich are likely going to be terminating their trip in Orlando.”

Three more nonstop international flights are coming to MCO, with a fourth potentially on the way, as the airport continues to push for rapid expansion into the international market. Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the travel industry!
