Mickey Mouse Can’t Sign Your Baby — And Other Weird Disney World Character Rules

One of the most magical parts of vacationing at Disney World is the opportunity to meet fan-favorite characters.

Tiana!

Whether you’re hoping to snag a photo or autograph from the characters or just hoping to say hello and exchange a hug or two, meeting the character performers can be a special experience. When meeting the characters at Disney World, there are a few things to keep in mind as far as rules go.

There are a few things that the characters can’t do that might not make a whole lot of sense, but Disney is adamant about ensuring that the characters know not to do these things. Let’s talk about them!

Mickey Mouse Can’t Sign Your Baby

Mickey will not sign your baby with a Sharpie, and he won’t sign your arm. Characters actually won’t sign anything that’s on your body. No skin, and no clothing!

Of course, you can get around this by handing them a shirt or a hat, and they can also sign casts. If you’re a Fab Five groupie, we apologize to share with you this news.

Cinderella Can’t Rock Your Baby

If your little infant is crying and you’re hoping for a magical moment where Cinderella holds your baby and rocks it back to sleep, you’re out of luck. The characters can’t hold your baby at all, actually.

Cinderella Meet and Greet

You’ll sometimes see the princesses crouching down to interact with the littles, but they can’t pick them up.

No, Gaston Can’t Propose for You

If you were hoping to pass the ring on to a Disney character and have them pop the big question for you, we’re sorry to share that they cannot do that.

Gaston in Fantasyland

They can’t hold your engagement ring, or sonogram, and they DEFINITELY can’t hold your positive pregnancy test that you posed with in front of the castle. However, you can stand next to them with it in a photo, which is still pretty magical!

Rapunzel Can’t Sign a “Get Well Soon” Card

Characters can’t sign “get well” on anything because of the sense of magic that surrounds the characters. If Rapunzel signs a card and says “Get well,” there might be some belief (especially with the little ones) that the act means that the message will 100% work and that the recipient will absolutely get well.

Rapunzel

This is a bit sad, yes, but the characters can always write something along the lines of “sending love” or “sending pixie dust” instead.

Anna Doesn’t Know Where Galaxy’s Edge Is

When Princess Anna asks what the weird glowing sword in your hand is, she has no idea what a Light Saber is, and she definitely hasn’t heard of Galaxy’s Edge. When you say that it’s across the park from the meet-and-greet location in Hollywood Studios, she won’t know what Hollywood Studios is either.

Anna

Anna and Elsa live in Arendelle, and as far as they’re concerned, Arendelle is all that exists throughout your meet-and-greet experience! The characters live in the magical lands that appear in Disney’s animated films, so those lands are all that they know.

Minnie Won’t Rep Your Small Business

You can’t have the characters hold or pose with something that has a logo on it. If you have food or drink, you’ll have to put it down so that the logo and branding aren’t in the photo.

This just makes it so that the photo doesn’t look like a placement ad. Speaking of food and drink, you also can’t have alcohol in a photo with the characters!

A Meeska-Mooska-Margarita Isn’t Going To Happen

Disney characters and lands can’t have alcoholic beverages named after them!

Mickey Sipper

You will never see alcohol being promoted alongside a Disney character or in their likeness. This is also why you can’t get character-inspired sippers filled with alcohol!

Legends Never Die

Sometimes, the characters in the films face unfortunate fates. Gaston fell from his tower, Rapunzel’s long blonde hair is chopped and it turns brown, etc. However, you’ll see them strolling through the parks like nothing ever happened!

Gaston

If you ask them about these situations, they’ll share with you some pretty clever answers. They’re prepared, trust us! A rule of thumb is that they exist in the parks as they appeared in the majority of their film.
