The schedule for the weekend is jam-packed with panels, exclusive shopping, and bonus benefits for attendees. We’re expecting some exciting news to come out of the conference, especially with the Parks, Experiences, and Products panel on Saturday. However, one important person won’t be in attendance for this potentially big weekend!

We learned yesterday that Disney CEO Bob Chapek would not be attending Destination D23, and a Disney spokeswoman noted that it was due to a scheduling conflict. Since then, we haven’t received many details, but now we’ve got a statement from Chapek himself.

During an appearance on the D23 Inside Disney podcast this morning, Chapek said the following: “I’m sorry, I had every intention of trying to make it this year, as you know I’ve made the last several, and I really love the event. Unfortunately, this year given the new job and given tugs I get from several different areas it’s impossible for me to make it. But I will be there in spirit.”

  1. Just trying to imagine how the CEO of Disney Corp. Could have scheduled something other than a PR stunt appearance.

The focus of most of the complaints from regular customers of the parks are due to his decision making.

Rather than face the music, Mr. CEO has decided to hide out until the storm blows over and all is forgotten.

This is a reflection of true leadership !

  2. Scheduling conflict??????? That’s the new way of saying not important for me to waste my time. More proof those of us that helped build this company with our support mean nothing to him.
