Legendary Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter Wants A Figment Movie!

Every time we use our imagination, we can’t help but think of Figment from EPCOT’s Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

We love that little dragon, especially now that he’s put on his holiday sweater for the season! And it seems that Figment has an even bigger fan than us!

According to Attractions Magazine, legendary Imagineer Tony Baxter loves Figment so much that he wants a movie based on the Journey Into Imagination with Figment attraction! Baxter — who helped create Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, and more — recently spoke at a VIP reception for the Walt Disney Birthplace’s virtual celebration marking Walt’s birthday yesterday.

Baxter reiterated that he prefers the original 1983 version of the ride with Figment, which was replaced in 1999 with an attraction without Figment. Figment eventually returned two years later in another reimagined ride, but many Disney fans — Baxter included — prefer the original over all others.

Baxter said, “I would give anything to be called upon to rethink that and get back to the story that every human being does. There aren’t creative people and non-creative people. Everybody uses it. It’s just to what extent and I think that was a really valuable story to tell. It is certainly not told in there now, and I would love to see it get back.”

“Maybe we can even do a film. That would even be better. A full-length animated feature film starring Figment.” He then joked, “Let’s do a Kickstarter right now.”

We love this one little spark that could ignite an entire movie — so who knows? Maybe we’ll eventually get to see that dragon from our imagination on the big screen.
