Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Debut New Animatronics Technology

It seems that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to bring guests all sorts of new things to explore, from food to attractions to merchandise! Now we can add to that all-new application of animatronics technology called A1000 Audio-Animatronics.

This “next evolution” of animatronics technology will be used in — of all places! — the queue for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run where Hondo Ohnaka will come to life to provide instructions to riders.

Disney Imagineering released this video showing the progression of the project from wires and joints to an active audio-animatronic that looks awesome!

That animatronics figure you see at the end of the video is Hondo Ohnaka, the Weequay smuggler you’ll encounter on the Smugglers Run attraction.

His fluid movements are incredible — they say he’s the second most advanced audio-animatronic, after the Shaman of Song in Pandora’s Na’vi River Journey.

This new technology is just another reason to get pumped for the openings of Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge in Summer 2019 and Disney World’s Galaxy’s Edge in Fall 2019!
