Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend Celebrates 2nd Annual Event with Over 20,000 Runners

Last weekend more than 20,000 runners participated in the events of the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend. This year the 5K event took place on Friday night, with the new 10K race in the Saturday morning slot. The Bibbibi-Bobbidi-Boo Challenge medal was awarded to those who completed the 10K and the Disneyland Paris - Val'd-Europe Half Marathon. Next year's Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend is scheduled for September 20-23, 2018.

Mission Accomplished: Brazil’s Samuel Souza Do Nascimento Conquers the Galaxy at the 2nd Annual Star Wars Half Marathon — The Dark Side at Walt Disney World Resort

Samuel Souza Do Nascimento of Brazil won the second annual Star Wars Half Marathon - The Dark Side in a new record time of 1:07:14. Nascimento also won the 5K and 10K races. The top female finisher, Sydney Devore of Lakeland, Florida, also finished in a record-setting time of 1:20:15. More than 45,000 participated in the weekend's events.

University of Texas Runner Wins Emotional Disney Princess Half Marathon

Kaitlyn Johnson, a PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin, won the Disney Princess Half Marathon with a time of 1:22:16. Johnson ran in honor of her cousin who was killed in a car crash last summer. Heather Schulz of Orlando was second (1:24:53); Jennifer Berry of Denver was third (1:25:49). More than 52,000 runners participated in events during the race weekend, with 24,000 in the half marathon itself.

The Power of the Force: California Native Celebrates Victory at Star Wars Half Marathon — The Light Side

More than 17,000 California runners were part of the 35,000 participants that joined the Rebel Alliances at Disneyland Resort in the third annual Star Wars Half Marathon - The Light Side. The race weekend featured several intergalactic family-friendly events, including a three-day runDisney Health and Fitness Expo, runDisney Kids Races, the Star Wars 5K, the Star Wars 10K and the Star Wars Half Marathon - The Light Side. Adam Roach of Pebble Beach, Calif., conquered the galaxy in the Star Wars Half Marathon on Sunday, crossing the finish line at 1:10:31. Jennifer Brill, 27, of Washington D.C., was the female winner on Sunday with a time of 1:24:15. Many half marathon runners will be on their way to Florida in April for the Star Wars - The Dark Side Half Marathon Weekend, in their quest to complete the Kessel Run Challenge.

Half Marathon, Other Saturday Races Cancelled

The Walt Disney World Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 7, has been cancelled due to the weather. Other races scheduled for the day have also been cancelled. Here's the official statment from runDisney's Facebook page: "In an abundance of caution, the Walt Disney World Resort has cancelled all running events on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 due to weather conditions. This includes the Walt Disney World Half Marathon and the Disney Kids Races."
