Posted onDisney's Animal Kingdom marked its 20th anniversary on Earth Day, April 22, by launching an expanded Party for the Planet celebration that will run through May 5. To commemorate the milestone year, the 500-acre adventure park is offering animal encounters, family-friendly activities, specialty desserts and more. In addition, the new show UP! A Great Bird Adventure, featuring characters from the Disney-Pixar film UP, debuted on April 22.

Animal Kingdom is marking April 22, which is also the theme park's birthday, with its annual Party for the Planet. This year, however, the celebration will be expanded to three days: April 21 through 23.
Earth Day (April 22) is Disney's Animal Kingdom's birthday, and it will celebrate with special events. Epcot marks the day with special events throughout the weekend, as well.

Disney Announces “Rivers Of Light” to Cap Full Day-Into-Night Experience Beginning April 22
Posted onEarth Day, April 22, marks the culmination of much construction and the debut of significant changes at Disney's Animal Kingdom, as it transitions into a full-day experience:
-- The all-new Rivers Of Light waterside show will premiere on April 22. This illuminating musical experience celebrates the magic of animals and humans and the natural world with a blend of performers, floating lanterns and theatrical animal imagery, set on the natural stage of Discovery River.
-- Nearby Discovery Island will come alive each night with the new Discovery Island Carnivale that will captivate guests with music, dance, vibrant costumes, and tasty culinary creations, spreading from one end of the island to the other.
-- The theme park's Tree of Life undergoes "awakenings" as the animal spirits are brought to life by magical fireflies that open a window into the body of the tree, revealing colorful stories of wonder and enchantment.
-- Each evening the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction will be bathed in the look of sunset with special lighting that will allow guests to explore well into the night. During the expedition guests can now enjoy the wildlife at night, and may discover two new species: African wild dogs and hyenas.
-- When the sun sets, the Village of Harambe will become a hot spot with the new Harambe Wildlife Parti. Here, "party animals" can dance alongside local street musicians and entertainers, partake in exotic foods and libations and explore the diverse wares of village artisans and merchants.
