8 WEIRD Dollywood Rules You Need To Know

I recently went to Dollywood for the very first time, and I had a BLAST.

I had some amazing food, went on some fun new-to-me rides, and just generally had a great time hanging out with my pals Emma and Breea. But during my visit, there was something that surprised me…Dollywood has some WEIRD rules!

Be Careful How You Dress

First of all, there are a few different rules about how you can dress on Dollywood property. It’s forbidden for anyone to dress up as either Dolly Parton herself or as Santa Claus. Just like how adults can’t dress as characters in Disney parks, you’ve got to rein yourself in here.

Also, if you’re going to the water park, Splash Country, or staying at one of the hotels, you will not be allowed to wear jean cut-off shorts in the pool. That one sounds like there’s a backstory we’re missing.

In general, Dollywood’s dress code is a bit more explicit than other theme parks, stating: “Clothing which, by nature and design, exposes excessive portions of the skin including but not limited to nipples or buttocks that may be viewed as inappropriate in a family environment are not permitted.”

Be On Your Best Behavior

Another rule that’s pretty straightforward is that you’re not allowed to dive in the kiddie splash pad. These things barely even count as pools, so diving is certainly a no-go. That’s a recipe for disaster…or head, neck, and back injuries.

The website also notes that horseplay is forbidden, stating, “Refrain from fighting, horseplay, taunting or threatening remarks & gestures.” Gotta be on your best behavior in Dollywood!

Devices on Attractions

Bringing electronics onto rides is kind of a mixed bag at theme parks, and sometimes it depends specifically on the attraction. However, in Dollywood, you are NOT allowed to bring your phone on rides.

Dollywood notes that, “Due to the dynamic movement you may experience on our rides, Apple Watches and other devices may activate their emergency call function.” They request that if you wear a smart watch, you put it in airplane mode before boarding attractions. Interesting!

Wildlife Problems

Since Dollywood is located in the Smoky Mountains, wildlife may be more prevalent than in other theme parks you’ve visited. If you spot a black bear, it’s a rule that you need to report it to an employee (known as a “host”) at Dollywood. You are not allowed to feed or approach the bears.

The “do not feed or approach” rule also extends to squirrels, raccoons, and ducks. There are even warning signs up in the park that note the ducks may try to steal your cinnamon bread — watch out!

You Can’t Bring in Snacks

And one rule that might catch you off guard if you’re used to Disney policies is that outside food and beverages are NOT allowed in Dollywood. Each guest is entitled to one unopened bottle of water, but no other snacks or drinks.

The good news is that the park has some excellent food and beverage options. So you know you won’t go hungry — you just have to budget for it!
