Flying through the air for your vacations or even traveling home can be a point of stress for a lot of people.

There are lots of ways that airlines try to ease that stress, like updating their apps! Using your airline’s app can give you the most up-to-date infromation on your flight, track your bags, and even let you order your in-flight snacks. Now, United Airlines has added a new feature that you need to know about!
United Airlines just upgraded its app in a way that we didn’t know we needed! The new app features are to “save customers even more time and further improve the overall travel experience on the world’s largest airline.” The app now includes Virtual Gate, Club Recommendation Tool, and Real-Time Bag Tracker!

‘Virtual Gate’ aims to give customers live updates about which groups are boarding. There’s also an added progress bar that shows how many people have boarded, which is intended to remove the need to wait around the gate area. (Honestly, we doubt people will stop waiting by the gate, but we like the intention here.) We also love knowing how close we are to boarding ending, so there are fewer unknowns on our travel day!

The United Club’s “closest and best” feature will recommend nearby United Club locations based on how close they are to your specific gate, as well as insights on how many people can fit inside each club. This feature is currently offered a Chicago O’Hare Airport but will roll out to more airports throughout 2026.

The company has also upgraded its bag tracking feature, including a “package-delivery-style tracker that shows real-time locations throughout the journey.” Talk about giving us peace of mind!

They’re also working on personalizing updates like giving travelers tips on traveling with strollers or wheelchairs, reminders on what travel documents they need, and even biometric boarding options. They’re also upgrading your arrival information features! The app will now tell travelers about local weather conditions, estimated local arrival times, and even instructions on connecting to rideshare services from the airport.

The upgrades come as the airline expects more than 10 million travelers flying with the airline during the winter holiday travel season. David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer, said, “The more information our customers have, the more confident they feel about their trip – and that’s particularly important during the holidays. The United app gives travelers personalized, real-time updates during their entire travel journey, helping our customers feel like they have a personal assistant guiding them every step of the way.”

Any time travel gets a little easier, we’re happy campers! Or should we say fliers? The airline previously rolled out 4 more changes in June 2025. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more travel, news, and updates.
