Your Next Delta Flight Could Look VERY Different

Flying right now is…interesting, to say the least.

TSA rules are changing more than we ever thought they would, and with the REAL ID change that occurred a few months ago, not to mention all the crazy developments with airlines themselves, we’re always keeping one eye on flight news. If you often fly Delta, there’s something you should look into, especially if you frequently splurge on tickets to fly outside of economy, because changes could be coming soon.

According to CNBCDelta is now studying ways to split up its premium cabins even more, essentially exploring how it can generate more revenue by pricing the best seats higher. In an earnings call recently, Delta President Glen Hauenstein said, “Premium has certainly been where our margins have continued to expand, and so we’re highly focused on continuing to provide improved service to those customers and more segmentation.”

All those years ago, when the main economy cabin started to be split up into regular economy seats that don’t allow seat changes, ones with extra legroom, etc., those changes will now begin to arrive in the premium cabins.

According to their numbers, Delta’s revenue from premium seats (such as business class) rose 6% in the first half of the year to $10.6 billion, while main cabin economy ticket revenue dropped 4% to $11.7 billion. This means that premium seating is seeing a higher demand in seats in business class and higher rather than in economy seating.

When asked, Hauenstein declined to give any details on what these potential changes may look like, but did say that Delta is testing some possibilities on customers and surveying travelers, because they want to “make sure that customers understand what we’re putting in the market and that they find value in it.”

We’re really curious to see what these changes may look like or when they could potentially roll out, but we’ll keep a close eye on everything so you know what’s going on before your next flight.
