The 5 Unspoken Rules for Drinking Around EPCOT

Let’s go to Disney World!

EPCOT

There is so much to see and do in Disney World, like checking out the newest shows, enjoying the rides, and trying all the good snacks! One of our favorite places to do all of this is EPCOT, but there might be some rules you need to consider before having too much fun inside the park.

Disney World’s EPCOT is known for a few things — awesome rides like Cosmic Rewind, rotating festivals, and drinking around the world! When it comes to the last one, there are a few unspoken rules you need to know before drinking through the World Showcase.

EPCOT

If you’ve never heard of Drinking Around the World, it’s an activity that has skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years, where guests grab an alcoholic beverage in each country within the World Showcase. In case you’re counting, that’s at least 11 drinks (12 if you include the Refreshment Outpost, which some people do.)

It can be really fun (or not so fun) depending on how you handle yourself while you’re doing it! One way to ensure your day stays magical while enjoying your 11 beverages is to make sure you’re sticking to these 5 unspoken rules.

The China pavilion

First up is to know where you’re starting! One of the biggest debates when it comes to drinking around the world is whether you start to the left or the right, Mexico or Canada. Going left and starting in Mexico means starting off with (most likely) margaritas!

Starting on the right side in Canada means (most likely) a beer option! While it’s up to you entirely, I stick to the motto “beer before liquor, never been sicker,” and that means I go to the left. That’s just my preference, but knowing which way you’re going to start can help save you precious time while you’re in the park.

The second unspoken rule to consider is that you have to be respectful. When it comes to unspoken rules, this one is high on the list. Being respectful to the people around you is a must when you’re drinking around EPCOT. Not everyone is participating in this activity, and it’s important to keep that in mind.

The Japan Pavilion

Almost everyone in the park paid the same amount of money to be there, so don’t ruin it by yelling, acting crazy, or being rude while enjoying your day. Everyone deserves a nice day in the park, you included! That brings us to our third unspoken rule: snack as you sip!

Not only should you be respectful to other people, but you should also take care of yourself while in EPCOT! Making sure to have a snack with each beverage will help make sure you don’t get sick or feel bad during your park day. Walking several miles during the day while drinking in the heat without food is a recipe for disaster. EPCOT has so many incredible snacks that skipping food is like missing out on one of the best parts of the park.

If you aren’t sure what to eat, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with a full video on snacks in each country. This can also serve as a great alternative if someone in your party doesn’t drink alcohol. Check out our Snacking Around the World video here!

The fourth unspoken rule goes hand in hand with snacking, and that’s staying hydrated! This is important when you’re in any Disney park, no matter what, but it’s especially important when consuming that much alcohol. Disney offers free water throughout the parks to help make sure you’re nice and hydrated during the park day, but you can also buy bottles at most stores and quick service locations.

Staying hydrated can keep you healthy and happy all day long. If water isn’t your favorite drink and you need a bit of flavor, consider adding some Liquid I.V. to your drink. It hydrates you faster than water by itself and adds some flavor.

In addition to having snacks and staying hydrated, be sure to have a safe way to get home! Whether it’s having a designated driver, taking an Uber, or using free Disney transportation, make sure it’s planned before you begin drinking.

Finally, the last unspoken rule is to remember you can’t bring your drinks with you when it’s time to leave! You can’t bring any alcoholic beverages with you when you leave EPCOT’s gates, which might present a problem.

Frozen Viking Coffee

If you grab a drink right before the park closes or you leave for the day, you will be stuck chugging your drink or throwing it away. Either way, it’s a waste of time and money considering EPCOT’s drinks aren’t the most budget-friendly. We really enjoy drinking around the world, but we want to savor every penny we put into our drinks throughout the day.

Tipsy Ducks in Love

Now that we’ve broken our rules down, I will share which drinks I love when strolling through EPCOT! Keep in mind, I love a sweet drink, so consider that before you really dive into ordering this list.

    • Frozen Viking Coffee – Norway Pavilion at Kringla Bakeri

  1. I was on the opening crew back in ’82. Drinking around the world was invented within the first week. I’ve done it many times and ALWAYS started in Mexico, only continued past UK to Canada once, and then backed up to finish the night in the Rose & Crown. If you buy me a drink, I’ll teach you how to use the sundial in UK after dark.

  2. I truly cannot imagine drinking 11 or 12 alcoholic beverages in one day! You all have hardier constitutions….more power to you.
