CONFIRMED: Disney+ Password-Sharing Crackdown Starts This Summer

At Disney’s shareholder meeting a few days ago, we got A LOT of news.

We know when Test Track is closing for refurbishment, got some concept for a new Pandora project in Disneyland, and we also learned WHEN Disney is going to actually start cracking down on password sharing for their streaming services.

If you’re thinking to yourself, “wait, I thought that already happened?” You’re not wrong, in a way. Back in March, Disney announced they would crack down on account sharing for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ (all the streaming services it owns).

While they had previously announced they would create a new, more expensive tier that did allow for password sharing, similar to Netflix, we haven’t seen that created just yet.

During the shareholder meeting, Bob Iger shared that the password sharing crackdown would actually begin in June in a few markets (but did not share which), followed by a larger rollout in September 2024. It’s still unclear what services it will affect first, but is pretty solidly confirmed that it WILL be happening for all of the services Disney owns before the end of 2024.

So what happens if you continue password sharing with people outside of your household? Well, you’ll be violating the new terms and service and are risking deactivation of your account, which isn’t fun. We aren’t yet sure how much more a month this sharing feature will cost, but will keep you updated as we hear more, so stay tuned to AllEars!
