Why You Should AVOID Disney World on October 20th

There are busy times in Disney World and then slightly less busy times. We keep track of all of them here so you can pick the best times for your family to visit.

We’ve talked about why August is going to be BUSY, but there might also be some times in October you’re going to want to avoid.

The Gartner IT Symposium Expo will run from October 20th to 23rd at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, bringing in a lot of guests to the parks. They usually buy out a whole park, and in past years, it was EPCOT or Magic Kingdom, causing them to close early.

From mid-August to the end of December, you might struggle with finding a whole day to visit Magic Kingdom, and when you do, it’s going to be busy. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party cause Magic Kingdom to close around 6 PM to make way for the after-hours event.

As someone with a birthday in October, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to watch Happily Ever After, the incredible fireworks show in Magic Kingdom. There are only a few days a week during October when there isn’t a Halloween party, so anyone who wants to watch Happily Ever After during their vacation can do so on the same night. It was busy to say the least!

If you don’t have Park Hopper tickets and love going from open to close, you might want to plan on heading to the parks on a different week to visit.

The expo will also take place at the Swan and Dolphin Resort, so be aware that it might be busier in that area and with transportation from the resort to the different parks.
