In 2001, Disney California Adventure opened as a second park in Disneyland Resort.
The park was originally intended to be dedicated to California, but since its opening, a lot of it has changed. In 2012, something that went on to become ICONIC in the park made its debut and it’s been synonymous with the park ever since. That ride will be closing soon and we need to talk about it.
The Red Car Trolley made its debut in California Adventure on Buena Vista Street in 2012. It features two replicas of Pacific Electric trolley cars similar to the ones you might have seen in Southern California in the 1900s through the 1960s. The trolleys debuted with a newly-reimagined California Adventure, meaning that they’re not just iconic, but also symbolic. Both trolleys are battery-powered, despite the overhead wires and trolley poles that are generally there to make them seem more authentic.
These trolleys are often a welcome site running up and down the street and are often one of the first things you notice when you walk into California Adventure. However, the Red Car Trolley is set to close in 2025.
That’s because Disney is expanding Avengers Campus and creating two new new attractions for that land: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab. In order to build this expansion, Disney will have to remove the Red Car Trolley barn, meaning the ride will have to be discontinued.
So this iconic attraction, which represents Southern California history, will be going away. Although Disney has not yet confirmed that the Red Car Trolley will go away forever, it seems likely that 2024 will be the last year you’ll ever be able to ride it. Disney may have future plans for it, but for now, we think we’ll be saying goodbye to the Red Car Trolley forever, or at least for a very long time.
So if you love the Red Car Trolley and want to enjoy it one more time, you’ll need to do so before 2025.

I really think Disney bus making a huge mistake. Rather than expanding the Avengers campus, why don’t they wait and move all of that into the 3rd gate, the new park should hold everything not created by Disney and leave the red card in place. If anything, they could expand the red car tracks into the area between DCA and Disneyland taking guests back and forth.
