The Fatal Flaw of Disney World’s Hotel Rooms

When it comes to Disney World hotels we’ve seen it all — seriously! We’ve stayed in each one of these hotels from the most budget-conscious to the most lavish and we have pros and cons for each.

Naturally, though not everything is top-notch all the time, and if you really want to know, we think these hotels have one glaringly obvious fatal flaw.

We’ve gotten to know the Disney World hotels inside and out and have even stayed at each of them multiple times. Between our entire team, we consider ourselves very well-versed (and vocal) about our love for our favorites.

However, if we’re really being honest with ourselves, not everything is always sunshine and rainbows (in some cases quite literally), and we’ve got to fill you in on the one constant flaw that binds them all — the bathrooms.

Yes, the Disney World hotel bathrooms come in all shapes and sizes depending on the category of hotel you’re staying in but since they’re all built as communal temporary housing, the bathrooms consistently are an issue for us.

Two Syllables: 1-Ply

This is truly a “if you know, you KNOW” situation and probably the least glamorous detail to discover upon arrival. If you’re well acquainted with some plush toilet paper, you might be in shock to discover that your room will come stocked with some of the thinnest toilet paper we’ve ever known to exist.

We’re sure there’s a conservation and probably logistical and economic rationale behind this decision but it’s one that will really set you back if you’re not expecting it.

“No Privacy ‘Round Here!”

Good ole Uncle Orville may have had a point when he decided to proclaim his intense need for a space of his own. If you’ve ever stepped into the bathrooms of a Disney World hotel, most of the time you can find your echo simply by talking…now imagine having to get up in the middle of the night and really need to well, go, and yeah…you’ve got our point.

Additionally, the water power in the showers and tub is pretty strong so you’ll definitely hear when another member of your family cranks the water on to fill the tub or start their shower, which also means everyone will know once you’re done too.

And when it comes to washing your little ones off after a long day, you’ve really got to pay attention to which room category you’ve booked. Not all of Disney World’s bathrooms are equipped with a standard shower tub combo (especially if you’re booking an accessible room), so you’ll want to pay attention to where you’re staying and if you need a specific room category at your hotel to get a tub combo versus just a standalone shower.

There’s almost nothing worse on a parent than having to get inventive to give their young ones a bath at the end of an exhausting day out in the parks.

Not All Doors Are Created Equal

Disney World hotels are really buckling down on trying to make their rooms more environmentally friendly and efficient in their design. So if you’ve seen a standard shutting door switched out for a sliding door in the latest design for newer hotels or updates with refurbs, don’t be too surprised.

Just a thin door to separate

We’re sure Disney has very good reasons why but if you have multiple people getting ready in the morning and someone accidentally slides the door to the side or you bump it and forgot to lock it, it could make for some embarrassing stories for later.

There are also a few hotels that use a curtain to separate the vanity area from the main sleeping room and that’s just not the same as a solid door.

There’s a small curtain divider

We’ve settled it and aired our petty grievances out about how we all seem to feel concerning Disney World hotel bathrooms. It’s also important to note that several of the points we take issue with could apply to most hotel setups and could be chalked up to an architectural design preference (or annoyance, whichever way you view it).

  1. Just my feeling but I can’t believe a child, or adult, has not hurt themselves on those sliding doors. I know they are space savers but for the price to buy in to DVC, design the rooms with a bit more square footage & install swinging doors.
Yes, I’m whining, I am not a fan of this type of door.

  2. none of those seem complaint worthy. if you’re staying with other folks in a hotel this is just what you’d expect

what I found was a problem on my last trip were the metal rails that shower doors slid on. I have short legs and can’t bend knees and hips well so I had problems getting over the side and into the tub without cutting my feet on the rails
