Airline Launches Investigation After 6-Year-Old Boy Was Placed On Wrong Flight

The holidays are a busy time in the airports — to say the least.

The holiday season is a busy time

The winter holiday season is when many airlines face delays, cancellations, full flights, and even miscommunication issues amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Miscommunication among flight attendants is supposedly what caused a situation to occur on a Spirit Airlines flight this holiday season. Here’s what you need to know.

According to CBS News, an unaccompanied 6-year-old boy was put on the wrong flight out of Philadelphia. The child was meant to land in Fort Myers, Florida, where his grandmother would collect him from the airport.

His luggage made it to Fort Myers, while the boy made it to Orlando — 160 miles away from the intended destination.

The boy’s grandmother, Maria Ramos, told a reporter, “They told me, ‘No, he’s not on this flight. He missed his flight.’ I said, ‘No, he could not miss his flight because I have the check-in tag,'” Ramos said. “I ran inside the plane to the flight attendant and, I asked her, ‘Where’s my grandson? He was handed over to you at Philadelphia?’ She said, ‘No, I had no kids with me.'”

A Spirit Airlines spokesperson said that an apology was issued to the family, and that Ramos was reimbursed for her travels from Fort Myers to Orlando to collect her grandson. Now, though, an internal investigation is underway to figure out how and why the mistake took place.
