The Worst Hotels Near Magic Kingdom and Why You’ll Regret Staying There

There are a lot of Disney World hotels to choose from and which one you stay at matters!

Magic Kingdom

If you are planning on spending a lot of time in the parks, you might be looking to stay at a hotel close by. For Magic Kingdom, there are 3 resorts in walking distance and one by a short boat ride. However, being close the the park can also have some downsides. We’re here to tell you why you might regret staying at these Disney World hotels.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

While the contemporary is very close to Magic Kingdom, some major drawbacks might make you regret staying here. First, this is a high-traffic resort. There are a lot of people who visit this resort even when not staying at it. Restaurants like Chef Mickey’s and California Grill draw people to the resort and it can create some chaos in the lobby areas.

The Contemporary Resort!

If you get a room in the atrium, which is the main building, it can get LOUD. With the monorail running through the hotel plus the hustle and bustle below, it can get rowdy in there. While some other Disney hotels provide a little more privacy and quietness outside of your room, this one does not.

Contemporary Resort Atrium

Finally, and this one is controversial, but staying at the Contemporary can feel like staying at an airport — yes, we said it. A few members of our team felt this way and you might, too. Between the architectural style of the building, the busyness, and the design choices, to some, it can feel a bit like staying in Orlando International Airport.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

While this resort is gorgeous and we love the food options here, there are some downsides. First, right now, you cannot walk directly to Magic Kingdom like you can from the Grand Floridian or Contemporary. This path is closed due to construction on the new DVC tower.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Speaking of construction, there is a lot of it right now at the resort. With the new tower being constructed, there is a lot of noise and machinery around. It is mostly isolated to the left side of the resort, but it could affect your stay if you are staying in buildings around that area. Your view could also be blocked by the new tower which would be a bummer.

DVC building

This resort is also a maze. It is made up of several smaller buildings and with multiple paths and walkways, you could cause you to get lost. This also means you have to walk outside to and from your room to the main building or the pools. This might not be an issue until it’s 90 degrees out or pouring rain.

There’s a lot of paths

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

The Grand Floridian does have a luxurious feel to it for some, however to others, it can give retirement home vibes. Not everyone might love the early 1900s style and might be looking for something more modern.

Grand Floridian

There is also continuing construction going on here. We have seen lots of scaffolding, machines, and workers around the property for several months now. This could cause some noise or just eye sores.

Grand Floridian

The parking is also terrible here, which is somewhat caused by construction right now. Several areas of the parking lot are being used to hold machines or building materials, leaving guests hunting for spots. If you are planning on having a car while on vacation, this could affect you.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Alright, while this resort is not within walking distance of Magic Kingdom, it is just a short boat ride away. To be honest, we love this resort. The theming and food options are great. However, if you are twisting our arm, we did find a few things that might make you regret staying here.

Wilderness Lodge

The boat to Magic Kingdom can be a bummer if it is raining. If you want more variety or adventurous food choices, those are hard to find at this resort. But mostly, you might regret staying here because you’ll never want to leave.

Each Disney resort is so different and they offer a lot of pros and cons with each. You should decide what you want out of a resort and what is best for you and your party. Of course, we had a ton of resources to help you make that decision over on AllEars.net.
