Spotlight: 3 Running Trails We Love

One thing you’ll never be short of at Walt Disney World is lots of legwork. In fact, just one circuit around Epcot’s World Showcase is more than a mile! Anyone who wears a pedometer around the parks will tell you how easy it is to record eight or miles in a single day.

For those of us who can’t get enough mileage in, though, there are also 16 running trails around the resorts, brought to you by Disney’s partnership with New Balance.

We have covered all of them in the past, however, with New Year’s Resolutions in full swing, we wanted to highlight three of our favorites. You can find the entire list of  running trails and related details here.

1. Wilderness Lodge to Ft. Wilderness

Ft. Wilderness Trail

The longest of the resort trails, this beautiful path takes you on a scenic journey between Ft. Wilderness Campground and the Wilderness Lodge. If you complete the entire round-trip journey, you’ll clock 3.25 miles!  This includes the entire path around Ft. Wilderness, which is 2.5 miles, in addition to the final “tail” at Wilderness Lodge making up the remaining .75 miles. You will be sharing the path with bikers, so be aware of your surroundings. This is one of the most beautiful paths on property — taking you through the Florida swamp and underneath nice shady trees. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a nice leisurely walk or cool morning jog.

2. Pop Century Resort/Art of Animation Resort

Pop Century Running Trail

Take a loop around Hourglass Lake on this 1.29 mile path between two value resorts. This is one of the most whimsical trails, thanks to the large icons and colorfully themed buildings of both Pop Century and Art of Animation. There’s the opportunity to add some additional steps by weaving through the buildings at each resort. There are even two smaller loops within Pop Century. One is located around the ’50s building, and the other around the ’80s and ’90s. You’ll have so much fun looking at giant Rubik’s cubes and yo-yo’s, you might forget you’re exercising! There is not much shade on this path, so we do recommend this one in the early morning or evening during the summer.

3. Epcot Area Resorts

Between the Yacht Club, Beach Club, Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin, and the Boardwalk Inn, there are a variety of paths you can take.

The above map has laid them all out — and you can click on it to enlarge. The most popular of these paths is the .8 mile loop around Crescent Lake, which will take you on the Boardwalk, and past the Yacht and Beach Clubs. The most fun part of running in this area is the ability to “design” your own course, increasing your distance and views as you go.  Keep in mind the Boardwalk portion of the trail can get crowded with folks headed to Epcot or Hollywood Studios, so early morning or afternoon is the best time to hit the trail.

Have we convinced you to lace up your sneakers yet? An early morning walk or jog may not be for everyone, but if it sounds good to you, we highly recommend hitting the trails at Disney. The scenery cannot be beat!
