If you’re stuck deciding between Disney World water parks, Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon, don’t stress, Disney just made the decision for you. Due to Florida’s recent freeze warning, both water parks will be closed until at least Wednesday, January 21st, but that’s not the only water park closure you need to know about.

When one waterpark opens, another waterpark closes. That’s right, as Blizzard Beach finally reopens, Typhoon Lagoon will be closing right after. Here’s everything you need to know!
Blizzard Beach temporarily closed last September for yearly maintenance. It’s a ski resort-themed water park that’s the largest on Disney property – it has over 17 slides, a wave pool, and two separate areas for pre-teens and children. Blizzard Beach is set to reopen for the year on February 15th.

Disney announced this week that its second water park, Typhoon Lagoon, will close on February 15th, the same day that Blizzard Beach reopens. Typhoon Lagoon is Disney’s oldest water park with one of the largest wave pools in the world. It’s themed to be a tropical paradise that just survived a typhoon.

We don’t have an official reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon yet, but it should reopen by summer 2026. Walt Disney World is running a promotion where Disney resort guests will receive a free water park ticket for their arrival day, which presumably starts with Cool Kid Summer on May 26th. Cool Kid Summer is a summer celebration that runs from May to August with travel deals and limited-time fun for the whole family across Walt Disney World Resort.

Another reason we’re confident in a summer reopening is for Typhoon Lagoon’s after-hours event, H2O Glow Nights. It’s a very popular after-hours event with exclusive characters and dance parties. It’s also the cheapest after-hours event at Disney, making it a great deal.

Since H2O Glow Nights typically run from late May to September, we’re confident that Typhoon Lagoon will reopen by the end of May. But just in case, stay tuned to All Ears for more water park updates and an official reopening date!
