We’re already hyped about getting to explore Universal Epic Universe next year when it opens, but that’s not the only theme park coming in the future. Other brands are constantly opening new parks around the United States! But now, we know that one park we were excited about is going to be delayed.

A while back, we reported that the American Heartland Theme Park was coming soon to Vinita, Oklahoma. What’s special about this park? Well, it’s designed with the help of former Disney Imagineers.

The project is spearheaded by Mansion Entertainment Group, with Larry Wilhite as its CEO. American Heartland Theme Park’s creative team has a combined total of more than 500 years of Disney and entertainment industry work experience. And previously, it was set to open in the fall of 2026.

However, now it looks like the project is being delayed. News 2 Oklahoma has shared that the park is facing delays as leaders wait for approval of construction plans. Kristy Adams, senior executive vice president of marketing for Mansion Entertainment Group, said that they decided to change the park’s footprint to accommodate the flood zone it will be built in.

Plans are awaiting approval from Gene Bicknell, who is the park owner. Adams said that once he gives the go-ahead, they can begin work on the Three Ponies RV Park to start. Construction for the theme park would start one year after that. Construction for the first phase of the theme park is expected to take 2.5-3 years, delaying the opening until at least 2028.

  1. I’m hesitant to be excited by this. I fear all it will turn into will be a campground and resort hotel without the theme park.

  2. Well, looks like the first (and most obvious) sign of Disney folks on board has revealed itself…crazy long timeline and massive delays!
