It’s hurricane season, which means we’ve been keeping a close eye on potential storms for the past few months.

We’ve already seen major hurricanes Helene and Milton in the past few weeks, but we’ve still got some time left in the season before things begin to chill out. And right now, we’re keeping our eyes on a tropical storm.
Tropical Storm Oscar is currently hovering over Cuba after being downgraded from a hurricane, producing heavy rainfall and life-threatening flash flooding. The National Hurricane Center reports that the storm is slow-moving and these conditions will last through mid-week.

Along with the heavy rains and floods, parts of eastern Cuba should expect mudslides, especially within the Sierra Maestra. Some flash flooding will also be possible across the Bahamas. These tropical storm conditions are expected in the Bahamas for tonight and Tuesday.

Based on current projections, it looks like the storm is heading out into the Atlantic after hitting Cuba and the Bahamas, instead of coming for the United States. Keep in mind that these projections could change in the next few hours or days, so make sure to watch the weather if you’re in a hurricane-prone area.

And if you’re concerned about the weather conditions, there are some things you can do to prepare. Make a hurricane supply kit with items like nonperishable foods, water bottles, battery packs, lanterns, and other necessities.

Also, if you’re heading on a cruise this week to the Bahamas and surrounding areas, you may want to keep an eye on any communications from your cruise line to see if travel is affected. We’ll keep you updated if we get any information.
