NEWS: Disneyland Could Be Able to Increase Capacity SOON

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Disneyland’s phased reopening since it began on April 30th.

Welcome back to Disneyland Resort!

When the parks originally reopened, only select rides and restaurants were available and only Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa reopened to guests. But, since then, Disney has shared that more restaurants and hotels will soon be joining the reopening list and, it seems that more may be changing soon.

Disneyland reopened under California’s tiered system in the Orange Tier, which dictates that theme park capacity remains at 25%. But, during the DisneylandForward Conference today, Disney shared that they anticipate Orange County (where Disneyland is located) lowering to the Yellow Tier on May 19th, enabling the park capacity to increase to 35%.

Orange County has been in the Yellow Tier range of daily COVID-19 cases and testing numbers for the past week, and current California guidelines require that those numbers be maintained for two weeks before officially entering the lower tier with fewer restrictions.

According to Disney, everything is pointing in that direction, so they expect that they could shift capacity numbers soon.

Health and Safety Sign

This tier system likely won’t be in place much longer, however. California plans to eliminate their tiered structure entirely on June 15th and return to normal opening capacities with “an indoor mask mandate…in place for massively large settings.” The one aspect that is still unclear is whether large theme parks will be deemed “massively large settings” or “large scale higher risk events” by the state.

This comes as the CDC announced that they have removed all face mask recommendations for those who are fully vaccinated, stating that they “no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting.”

The move for Orange County to the Yellow Tier is still subject to change, but we will continue to keep an eye out for updates on Disneyland capacity limits so stay tuned to AllEars for the latest!

  1. While this is progress, they still haven’t announced if Out of state or vaccinated visitors from out of state can go to the parks!! Come on Disneyland!

      1. The only thing I worry about letting those non Californian residents in and I’m not being mean about others coming in from other states. Those that have bought tickets and made reservations to go to Disneyland without others coming from other states they have done it for a reason. Less amount of people and our state right now is pretty safe and worry about those coming from other states that might not be so safe.
