You’re Breaking These 7 Disneyland Rules Without Even Knowing

Breaking these Disneyland rules could lead to a miserable experience or even expulsion from the Resort. We’re here to make sure that doesn’t happen!

Want to be able to experience the most out of Disneyland over and over again? Then abide by the laws and you’ll be welcomed back! Still, sometimes that can be difficult, as there are some rules that are more unknown than others. Buckle up, we’re letting you know about a few subtle rules that you need to know about before your next trip.

It has to be said: Most guests follow the rules EASILY! Disney doesn’t ask much, and a lot of Disneyland’s rules are rooted in common sense. Still, there are 7 rules in particular that are easy to forget or not know about.

Don’t Block Pathways

One of our BIGGEST pet peeves is when guests block pathways or randomly stop in the middle of a crowded path. Not only is this annoying, it’s against Disneyland policy.

There are two reasons for this rule being in place. The first is that blocking pathways is a form of fire hazard. The second is that by randomly stopping, you can create collisions that may have severe consequences.

If you must stop somewhere, do it off to the side where a pathway is clear and foot traffic can continue without impediment.

Don’t Hold Places In Line

This rule gets broken A LOT. But still, it’s against Disneyland policy to reserve places in line so the rest of your party can skip through and meet you without having to wait.

If you’ve ever been in a long line and scoffed at someone saying, “Excuse me, my family is just up ahead,” as they pass by you, they’re not playing by the rules. How you respond to that is a delicate process, but it’s better left in the hands of Cast Members than confrontation.

Make sure your whole party is with you before you enter a line. If that means waiting for everyone to get together before lining up, so be it. The alternative is rule-breaking.

Do Not Request Seats When Doing Single Rider

A Single Rider line usually allows you to get on a ride faster, as Cast Members split you up to fill in empty seats on ride vehicles. With that in mind, don’t get picky if you choose this option. More often than not, you won’t be able to sit with your group or get special treatment — that’s sort of the point of the single rider line.

You’re well within your rights to make requests…when you do the standby line or Lightning Lane lines. By choosing to be a Single Rider, you’re acknowledging that you’re willing to sit wherever the Cast Member places you.

Don’t Turn Up Your Brightness on Rides

You are allowed to film rides, but please turn down the brightness on your phone, and no flash photography.

You’ll certainly hear this warning via the ride safety instructions, and yet, a lot of people choose not to listen.

Disneyland is more fun when everyone gets to enjoy an attraction, and a bright phone or flash picture can be very disruptive. If you must be on your phone, do everything you can to be courteous to those around you.

Don’t Feed the Wildlife

Ducks, geese, and more wildlife make Disneyland their home, and they get pretty used to people. However, “feeding, petting, touching, harassing, or harming any wildlife, including birds, is prohibited.” They may feel a little more comfortable around you than you’d expect, but DO NOT INTERACT WITH THEM!

We’ve seen people feed the ducks, and small children harass ducklings. Keep in mind that interacting with wild animals in any setting is unsafe for people and the animals alike.

Ducks may bite, and if you feed them human food, they could choke or not be able to digest what you gave them. These are just a couple of examples of why maintaining boundaries is so important.

Take Off Loose Items BEFORE Getting On A Ride

Take off your hats, glasses, and backpacks BEFORE getting on the ride. This is to protect you and your belongings.

You’ll be reminded of this before your ride vehicle is in motion, so if you forget, don’t panic!

The reason you need to remove loose items like hats, glasses, and backpacks is for safety and security reasons. Dropping items on a ride could create complications with potentially dangerous results. In the case of backpacks, they can inhibit safe sitting. On the flip side, Disney is looking out for your stuff, helping you to get on a ride with your valuables and still be able to exit with them.

Don’t Blast Music

Speakers are banned from the Disney Parks for good reason — they can be disruptive. But these days, phone speakers can still be pretty loud, and that creates complications.

When in public, please turn down the volume on your phone when watching videos or listen with headphones. If you’re listening to videos on your phone at a high volume — and especially if the content isn’t rated G — you can quickly become a nuisance to those around you.
