To better accommodate guests with disabilities, Disney has a service called Disability Access Service (DAS).

This is a service that allows individuals who have trouble waiting in a regular queue due to a developmental disability that cannot be solved by a mobility aid to wait the same amount of time outside of the queue. For example, if the ride wait time is 45 minutes, the guest using DAS will still wait 45 minutes, just outside of the standard queue. However, changes are coming to DAS next week.
Disney recently announced changes will be coming to the Disability Access Service, but the services will still be available for those who need them. The changes to DAS will take effect on May 20th in Disney World.
Here’s what will be changing:
- Disney is partnering with Inspire Health Alliance to ensure that those who meet the disability criteria are receiving the services they need.
- The DAS user will only be allowed 4 people on the pass with them, or only their immediate family (if above 4 people)
- The current DAS system comes with 2 pre-entitlements, where guests who register for the service online can choose 2 rides per day that they’d like to secure a time for AND use the regular DAS system. With this new system, pre-entitlements and the regular DAS system will be separate, and those using DAS will not be guaranteed those pre-entitlements
- The enrollment window for DAS will increase from 60 days to 120 days
- Under the current system, you can speak with a Cast Member virtually ahead of your trip to access the service OR apply in person. With the new system, however, no in-person option will be available.

Why make these changes? According to Disney, the use of DAS has tripled in the past 5 years, and they want to ensure the service is only being used by the guests who really need it. Disney has stated that if any guest is found to be lying about the reasons they require DAS, they will be barred from Disney World and Disneyland permanently.

Disney’s “return-to-queue” process will stay the same, which allows guests who need to leave the queue for a short period of time to “save” their place in line, in a way. More Cast Member training is being given to properly assist these guests.

The changes will be coming to Disneyland on June 18th, 2024. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney news.
