NEWS: Actor André Braugher Has Passed Away at 61

We are sad to report the passing of actor André Braugher.

Last night it was reported by The New York Times that the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor passed away at the age of 61.

Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed this news. She announced that his death was caused by a “brief illness”, but did not give any further details.

André Braugher was born on July 1st, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up on the city’s west side. After high school, he got a scholarship to Stanford University. After he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in math, Braugher continued his studies at the Juilliard School and got his Master of Fine Arts.

After college, Braugher went on to have a successful career in acting. After one of his first roles in the movie Glory (1989), where he played a Union soldier during the American Civil War, he stated “I’d rather not work than do a part I’m ashamed of”.

After this role, he continued to pursue acting and played many notable characters in various movies and television shows. In the 1990s, he got his official breakout role in the show Homicide: Life on the Street— where he played an intense police officer in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. He eventually went on to win an Emmy award for this role.

Braugher also won another Emmy award for his role as a master criminal in the series Theif (2006) on FX.

One of his last roles before his passing mirrored his breakout role. He was once again playing the role of a police officer in the series Brooklyn Nine-Nine– and his character was a fan favorite.

Throughout his career, he also played various roles in television and film. From Shakespearian roles at the New York Shakespeare Festival to playing a physician in Gideon’s Crossing — Braugher made a lasting impact on the film and TV industries.
