Several new closings were announced on January 15, 2016, for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
First, the Disney Parks Blog announced that Lights, Motors, Action would close on April 2.
A later report in the Orlando Sentinel announced even more closings that would occur on April 2:
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Play Set
Monsters Inc. Meet and Greet
Studios Catering Company

Finally, the removal of the Earffel Tower.
None of these closures come as a surprise to those following the changes at the Studios. After all, to build two new lands, Star Wars and Toy Story, a good amount of acreage needs to be cleared and made available. The one item that was sad for Studios fans is the removal of the Earffel Tower. Back in the early days of the Studios, the Tower was thought of as the icon of the park. During the holidays a Santa hat was even placed on the Tower. However, in recent years, and with closures of attractions like the Backlot Studio Tour, it has taken more of a back seat.
Several backstage areas are also slated for closure, again to make room for the new areas.
It’s unknown at this time just what other areas will be closed. What is known, though, is that more announcements will be coming.
