Florida is known as the Sunshine State, but sometimes, that’s just a plain lie.

Just like many other states, there are plenty of rainy days in Florida (ESPECIALLY in Florida), but if you’ve visited Florida recently and found it to be cloudier than you expected, we now know the reason why!
According to ClickOrlando, these cloudy skies during the entirety of winter are thanks to a “very active subtropical jet stream induced by El Nino.” Records go back 84 years for Florida, and this has been the cloudiest winter on record!

Typically Central Florida sees around 50% cloud cover through December and January, but this year’s has been 70%-80% — which is a massive increase!

This El Nino is also “among the strongest in recorded history” which could make things interesting for the 2024 hurricane season. If you’re heading to Disney World today, expect those clouds and rain, so bring a poncho!

But guess what? Disneyland isn’t catching a break either! Disneyland Resort is also a little rainy today, so you’ll want your poncho over there too.

Even if it’s not in the forecast for it to rain on your trip, we highly recommend bringing a poncho or umbrella with you into the park — you never know when that rain will hit!
