Flying might look a little different in the future!

Instead of boarding passes, airports are looking at a new way to expedite the process.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is responsible for rules and policies for airports and airlines, and according to The Times, it is considering creating a different system for boarding planes.

A “digital travel credential” would be assigned to a passenger, where you can upload and store your passport information. Don’t worry; your passport will be used to match you to your information, not store it, so it removes the risk of data breaches.

You won’t have to check in to flights online or at the airports, but your “journey pass” will automatically update if any changes are made to the booking. Airlines will know that you’re coming for your flight when your face is scanned at the airport.
This is one of the biggest changes made in over 50 years! This new change is planned to go into effect in the next few years.

One feature that will be added with everything being digital is that if you realize on your first flight that you will miss your connecting flight, instead of heading to the airline desk to rebook and get a new boarding pass, the airline will automatically reschedule you on the next available flight. You don’t need to print out a new boarding pass because it’s already on your phone!

These new changes sound incredible, and while they’re still in the works, we’ll continue to monitor the process to see if anything changes soon. Keep following AllEars for more travel news!
