Disney’s ice queen has been de-throned by…Bruno?

Encanto debuted in theaters on November 24th, 2021, and it came out on Disney+ a month later on December 24th. But that’s not when this movie (and its soundtrack) really started to blow up the charts. In January, the music from Encanto jumped to number 7 on the Billboard charts and then proceeded to TOP the charts later on. And now EVERYONE is talking about Bruno! (Yes, we know that joke is getting old. Yes, we’re going to keep making it.) Here’s how Bruno knocked Queen Elsa off her throne this week.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has officially surpassed the Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” from Frozen as “the biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hit from Disney’s animated filmography,” according to Entertainment Weekly.

In fact, Miranda’s song about the outcast in Encanto is the biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit from a Disney animated movie since 1995. This week, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was streamed 29 million times and downloaded more than 8,000 times.

Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” took the number five spot on the Billboard charts in 2014, but it has now been overtaken by “Bruno,” which reached spot number four. This song has trended on the internet and TikTok in particular, which likely contributed to the high numbers of streaming and downloads.

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is performed by Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz, and the Encanto cast.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the only other songs from animated Disney movies to hit a top-five position include the following: “A Whole New World” (from Aladdin; No. 1 in 1993), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (from The Lion King; No. 4 in 1994), “Colors of the Wind (from Pocahontas; No. 4 in 1995).

Update: “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” now #2 on the Billboard Hot 100!
The catchy Encanto tune hit another milestone today, coming in at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for the week of January 29th! The only Disney Animation song that has charted higher is Aladdin‘s “A Whole New World,” which charted at number 1. It’s only Bruno’s 4th week on the chart, so we’ll see if he makes it to the top!
