Astro Orbitor
Tomorrowland
Disneyland
Introduction | Attraction | Touring Tips | Kids/Characters | Dining | Shopping | Interesting Facts
INTRODUCTION
Pilot your own rocket ship around the skies of Tomorrowland. Fly high or low as you travel around and around a whirling planetary solar system.
ATTRACTION
Located at the entrance to Tomorrowland, the Astro Orbitor recalls the designs of rocket ships from the Jules Verne era. Above the rockets, a colorful array of planets and satellites, inspired by classic astronomical designs, orbit around a central axis.
A short outdoor queue winds around the attraction until reaching the loading area. Each of the 16 rockets will seat two adults, one behind the other. Riders are secured by a safety strap type of belt. Once the rockets rise into the air and begin circling, use the joystick to raise or lower the rocket ship during the 90 second ride.
Read about the Walt Disney World version of this attraction HERE.
TOURING TIPS
This attraction is slow-loading, and on busy days the wait can be quite long. The queue is not shaded at all, and it can get quite hot in the sun. It's best to ride early while the line is still short.
The ride itself is like Dumbo - without the elephant.
There is no height requirement, but young children must be accompanied by an adult.
Those with motion sickness or fear of heights should consider the advisability of riding.
The Astro Orbitor is often closed when it rains.
Wheelchair/ECV users should proceed through the regular queue, but must be able to transfer into the ride vehicle.
Though the rockets supposedly seat two people, those that are large or tall might want to ride by themselves.
With its position at the entrance to Tomorrowland, the area around the Astro Orbitor can become quite a chokepoint, and very congested.
The closest restrooms are located just outside the entrance to Tomorrowland next to the Plaza Inn.
KIDS AND CHARACTERS
This ride is similar to Dumbo and children who enjoy that ride will probably enjoy this one.
Just around the corner is Triton Gardens, where Ariel makes frequent apppearances. Check your daily Times Guide for times and locations of other Meet and Greet opportunities.
DINING
The Plaza Inn is located just outside Tomorrowland, and serves a Character breakfast. Lunch and dinner offerings include chicken, pot roast, pasta, salad, and desserts.
Club Buzz - Lightyears Above the Rest - serving burgers, fried chicken, sandwiches, and snacks, is around the corner across from Autopia.
Redd Rockett's Pizza Port - offering pizza, pasta, and salads, is on the far side of Tomorrowland next to Innoventions.

INTERESTING FACTS
Astro Orbitor is based on the classic Rocket Jets attraction which opened in July 1967 and closed in January 1997. During the New Tomorrowland rehab it was relocated from its position above the center of Tomorrowland to its current location at the entrance. The attraction, with its new look and new rocket ships, re-opened on May 21, 1998.
The design is based on drawings by Leonardo da Vinci.
In honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary, one of the orbiting planets has been transformed into one of the 50 Hidden Mickeys.
