Alice in Wonderland SignINTRODUCTION

Curiouser and curiouser! You'll feel like Alice when you climb aboard your caterpillar car and take a tour of Wonderland, encountering many of its colorful and eccentric inhabitants along the way.

ATTRACTION

Alice in Wonderland is located on the edge of Fantasyland next to the Mad Tea Party and across from the Matterhorn.

The queue and the loading area are outside and exposed -- it can get quite warm on a sunny day. The attraction closes when it rains.

This is a "dark" ride that proceeds through many scenes from the movie, like Tulgey Wood, the Queen's rose garden, the infamous croquet match, and the Mad Hatter's Un-birthday party, each scene accompanied by the corresponding song.

TOURING TIPS

As with most Fantasyland attractions, it's best to ride this one early in the day before the line gets too long.

The caterpillar cars seat four people, and there's a lap bar to help secure riders.

The ride is about 3 minutes long.

Alice in Wonderland Car and TrackThere is no height requirement.

Wheelchair/ECV users enter an access gate on the far left and must transfer out to experience this attraction.

The closest restrooms are located down Matterhorn Way, beyond Alice in Wonderland.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

This ride is appropriate for all ages. None of the scenes are very dark or scary (though perhaps some might find the Queen of Hearts yelling "Off with their heads!" a bit unsettling).

Ariel can be found nearby in Triton Gardens. Alice and the Mad Hatter often participate in opening Disneyland, and are available to meet and greet guests just inside the park right after opening. Later in the day they and other characters are often found on the terraced area of Small World Way, which is close by.

DINING

The closest dining establishments are Village Haus in Fantasyland and Club Buzz in Tomorrowland.

SHOPPING

Mad Hatter sells a variety of character hats, including Mad Hatter top hats, as well as Mickey ears and Peter Pan hats with personalized embroidery.

Le Petit Chalet, just across Matterhorn Way, features Disney character t-shirts, souvenirs, and other gift items.

INTERESTING FACTS

This was the second Disneyland attraction based on the Alice in Wonderland movie, and opened in June 1958.

Cheshire CatAt the beginning of the ride the caterpillar goes up hill, and comes down a hill at the end -- the Alice in Wonderland attraction is built on the second floor of the ride building that houses Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

The caterpillar cars have six color patterns: all green, green/blue-green, all pink, pink/purple, all yellow, and yellow/orange.

Along Matterhorn Way next to the attraction is an alcove with a figure of the Cheshire Cat. Some of the hammer birds are located on the rocks above him.

The Alice in Wonderland attraction was re-done as part of the "New Fantasyland" project of 1983. An "upside-down" room was removed, and the tea party scene was relocated to the end of the ride.
