Will You Soon Be Able to Walk to Magic Kingdom from Grand Floridian?

One of the best parts of staying at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is its close proximity to the Magic Kingdom.

The Grand Floridian

Located on the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon, you can currently take a Monorail or Boat from the resort to Magic Kingdom.

But wouldn’t it be convenient if there was a walkway as well?

My Disney Experience App

As you can see from this map, there is no current path between the Magic Kingdom and the Grand Floridian.

But we think that could be changing! Recently, a permit was filed indicating a new project, with the site listed as “Grand Floridian to MK Walkway.”

And considering there is already a path between the Polynesian Village Resort and the Grand Floridian, guests staying at the Poly could theoretically use this additional walkway to get to Magic Kingdom as well.

While Disney hasn’t officially announced any such project, we can’t help but wonder if the permit is a sign of things to come!

  1. I wish WDW was overall more pedestrian friendly outside the confines of the Parks. When we stayed at Pop Century last year I could see on Google Earth that Hollywood Studios was walking distance, but there was no clear way to walk there. Once you’re off the Resorts there are no sidewalks. I walk 3-5 miles just about every day, and did early mornings before heading to the Parks the days I was there. I did walk EPCOT to HS one evening, nice stroll along the waterway with shade along the way.

  2. Definitely would love a way to walk to the Magic Kingdom from the Grand Floridian. I love to walk and I wish there was a way to walk everywhere in Walt Disney World.

    1. Here are some ways to walk: you can lumber, amble, careen, creep, dawdle, dart, escort, hoof it, hop, falter, somnambulant, hasten, limp, lurch, meander, mope, pace, patrol, parade, proceed, promenade, pitter-patter, knock about, roam, ramble, saunter, stagger, stalk, stride, stroll, side step, slog, sashay, shuffle, strut, sprint, stumble, toddle, traverse, totter, trudge, waddle, and my all time favorite mosey. Or if they don’t build the draw bridge you can wade or divinely tread.

I hope that helps. Enjoy your walk.

  3. This would be fantastic. I agree with others I would so much rather walk that ride either the boats or monorail. I am also a runner and this would allow for a decent run without having to backtrack so much. I would consider staying at the GF or Poly again if they completed this.

  4. I would absolutely love this! We usually stay at Grand Floridian, but recently stayed at Contemporary solely for the purpose of being able to walk to Magic Kingdom. Walking, even if it’s a long walk, has become preferable to the monorail due to the security (security line on the walk to MK was always shorter than at the monorail) and monorail delays.

  5. I agree. It would certainly raise a lot of safety concerns for the canal but the drawbridge would be an excellent solution. And an awesome idea for a romantic walk!

  6. I like this idea. I try to walk as much as I can to all my spots. Had wonder if they would ever have a walkway from Grand Floridian to MK.

  7. I’m wondering how they will deal with the canal where they keep the electrical parade barges? Also that’s how they got the liberty bell out for refurb. They will need some sort drawbridge /swing bridge?

    1. A drawbridge was my thought, like the one they use at Epcot between China and the African Outpost to get the Illuminations barges in and out of the lagoon.
