Disney Cruise Line to Extend Agreement with Port Canaveral Delight
in the Magic and Wonder of the Holidays Disney
Cruise Line Announces New Enhancements to the Disney Magic Disney Cruise Line Enhances a Classic Disney Cruise Line Returns to LA for Summer 2008 Disney Cruise Line to Extend Agreement with Port Canaveral PORT CANAVERAL, Fla., (March 19, 2008) Disney Cruise Line announced it has finalized an agreement with Port Canaveral to extend the companys current contract 15 years through 2022. In addition, as part of its continuing commitment to the Central Florida area, the company will home port its two new ships in Port Canaveral. The new agreement between Disney Cruise Line and Port Canaveral was ratified today by Port Authority Commissioners. As part of the new agreement, the Canaveral Port Authority will expand and modify the Disney Cruise Line port facility including an extension of the dock and enlargements and enhancements to the terminal building to allow for additional luggage and passenger capacity. A multi-level parking structure, scheduled to be completed by 2011, will also be built for Disney Cruise Line. We are very excited to call Port Canaveral our home and look forward to bringing our new ships here, said Tom McAlpin, President of Disney Cruise Line. The new enhancements being made to our terminal will provide guests an even more seamless transition from land to sea. Once completed, the enhancements to the already unique Disney terminal will provide for improved passenger flow and additional guest conveniences that together will contribute to the overall boarding experience. Disney Cruise Line will work with Port Canaveral to create a state of the art facility, which will contain several Disney touches that are certain to delight guests. The terminal and dock enlargements are necessary to accommodate the new and larger Disney Cruise Line ships. Scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012, they will be significantly larger than the existing Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Port Canaveral Chief Executive Officer Stan Payne said, Disney Cruise Line has been extremely successful in drawing a strong family market to Port Canaveral since its launch 10 years ago. Were thrilled that Disney has committed to stay here long-term and are looking forward to the two new ships home porting here. Port Canaveral continues to be one of the worlds busiest cruise ports. More than 3.5 million Disney Cruise Line guests have sailed from Port Canaveral since the lines beginning in 1998, adding to the economic and tourism growth of Brevard County. Future itinerary information for Disney Cruise Line ships beyond 2009 will be released at a later date. Brand
New Musical Aboard Disney Cruise Line Brings
CELEBRATION, Fla. -- Disney Cruise Line will transform one of the most beloved animated features of all time into a stage spectacular aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship when "Toy Story-The Musical" makes its debut at the Walt Disney Theatre this spring. This is the first time the popular DisneyPixar classic has been adapted for the stage. Preserving the humor and heart of the original "Toy Story" film from Pixar Animation Studios, "Toy Story-The Musical" explores the true meaning of friendship as Buzz Lightyear and Woody transform from jealous adversaries to best friends with an unbreakable bond. The show's elaborate costumes capture the vibrant colors and playfulness of the animated characters. Guests of all ages will delight in an original collection of show tunes that retell the story in a fun and energizing way. "World-class Disney entertainment is an important hallmark of Disney Cruise Line that sets us apart from the rest of the cruise industry and one of the reasons guests sail with us again and again," said Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin. " 'Toy Story-The Musical' represents the next generation of staged entertainment for Disney Cruise Line and a great enhancement to our incredible array of entertainment aboard the Disney Wonder." Following the storyline of the original DisneyPixar film, "Toy Story-The Musical" will give guests a toy's eye-view of life in Andy's room. The musical opens with an introduction to Woody, a pull-string talking cowboy who has long been six-year-old Andy's favorite toy. But Andy's birthday brings a new arrival -- Buzz Lightyear, the coolest action figure in the universe. Woody's jealousy gets the better of him and he schemes to get rid of his new rival, but things go dreadfully awry. Woody and Buzz find themselves outside of Andy's room and in a hostile world. Working together and overcoming their differences, they find their way back to Andy -- along the way developing an appreciation of one another and creating a friendship. "The 'Toy Story' film offered us a rich story and some incredible visual elements to build upon," noted Jim Urry, vice president of Entertainment for Disney Cruise Line. "The team we assembled created costumes, set designs and a whole new musical score to literally transport our guests into the middle of the whimsical world of Buzz and Woody." Taking audiences into that world was no small task. Larger-than-life props help transform the 977-seat Walt Disney Theatre into a toy-sized world of fun and adventure. A rear projection screen aids the transformation between human-sized and toy-sized scenes and takes the show from the comfort of Andy's room ... to the frenzied world of Pizza Planet ... to the frightening room of Andy's neighbor, Sid. Using Randy Newman's Oscar nominated hit song "You've Got a Friend in Me" as a departure point, this production has a new eight-song score that brings the story to life. New York-based Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn from the band GrooveLily blended together pop, rock and folk music to create a contemporary score that truly captures the heartfelt whimsy of the animated tale. The costumes for "Toy Story-The Musical" are some of the most complex ever developed for a Disney Cruise Line production. Costume designer Ann Closs-Farley created an extraordinary vision for what the characters would look like on stage. With a combination of articulated puppets and inflatable costumes, the "Toy Story" characters come to life -- including a nearly 9-foot-tall version of Rex the dinosaur and a 4-foot-round Hamm the piggybank. In all, "Toy Story-The Musical" represents one of the largest productions ever developed for a cruise ship. This is just the second time a Pixar animated feature has been adapted for the stage by Disney Creative Entertainment. In early 2007, "Finding Nemo-The Musical" debuted at Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort and has been a tremendous success. "When we first thought of bringing 'Toy Story' to the stage, there was a great deal of excitement about the project," said Anne Hamburger, Disney Creative Entertainment executive vice president. "Everyone on our team could immediately see how the heart and comedy of these characters could come alive in a memorable way that is unique to musical theatre." "Toy Story-The Musical" compliments an already stellar lineup of entertainment performed every voyage on the Disney Wonder, joining stage shows "The Golden Mickeys" and the award-winning "Disney Dreams." A leader in the family cruise segment, Disney Cruise Line offers three-, four- and seven-night itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Land/sea vacation packages that include a stay at Walt Disney World Resort are also available. Disney
Cruise Line Adds Two Eastern Caribbean Itineraries CELEBRATION, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2007) -- Disney Cruise Line announced today two new eastern Caribbean itineraries for 2009 -- giving guests more choices than ever before to explore the beautiful islands of the Caribbean -- and special offerings for 2008. Beginning in 2009, St. Croix will be a featured stop on one new seven-night itinerary, and Tortola will be featured on another seven-night itinerary. Both islands are new to Disney Cruise Line, increasing the seven-night Caribbean choices on the Disney Magic to four itineraries (Disney's traditional eastern and western Caribbean itineraries will continue). "The Caribbean continues to be an extremely popular destination for our guests," said Tom McAlpin, president of Disney Cruise Line. "Expanding our offerings in the eastern Caribbean provides our first-time cruisers an array of popular destinations to choose from, while also providing seasoned Disney cruisers new destinations to visit and explore with Disney." McAlpin noted that there are also special offerings during 2008 including a summer season of sailings to the Mexican Riviera, select cruises with multiple stops at Disney's private island paradise, Castaway Cay, and an enhanced seven-night Land and Sea package that combines the adventure of a Disney cruise with the fun and excitement of a stay at Walt Disney World Resort. 2009. . .New Eastern Caribbean Routes Disney Cruise Line guests have always enjoyed the beautiful turquoise waters and sugar sand beaches of the eastern Caribbean and, on select voyages throughout the 2009 season, guests will be able to explore either St. Croix or Tortola. The largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Croix offers a wonderful mix of colonial-style architecture, natural wonders, quaint shops and spectacular marine habitats. Tortola, part of the British Virgin Islands, features centuries-old ruins, botanical gardens, sugar mills, sensational bays and beaches. The new eastern Caribbean itineraries will stop at St. Croix or Tortola, St. Thomas and Disney's private island, Castaway Cay.
Disney
Cruise Line will continue to offer its current version of the eastern
Caribbean cruise with stops at St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Castaway
Cay. The traditional eastern Caribbean voyages will sail in-between
the special sailings to St. Croix or Tortola. Double the Castaway Cay in 2008 As a special treat during the summer of 2008, Disney Cruise Line has redesigned the four-night itinerary to offer two stops at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the tropical waters of the Bahamas. Castaway Cay continues to be one of the highlights of a Disney Cruise vacation, and with this new itinerary, guests will have twice as much time -- two full days -- to enjoy all the amenities and activities of the tropical oasis. With its crystal-clear turquoise waters, powdery white sand beaches, swaying palm trees and beautiful tropical flowers, Castaway Cay provides the ultimate escape, whether a guest is seeking adventure, relaxation or quality time with the family. Altering the traditional four-night itinerary, these 16 special sailings will bookend a day in Nassau with two visits to Castaway Cay.

Cruise Line Arrives In Europe, Begins First-Ever Mediterranean Cruises
BARCELONA, Spain (May 24, 2007) -- Thousands of colorful fireworks filled the nighttime sky over Barcelona this evening as, for the first time, the Disney Magic cruise ship approached the Spanish port city nestled along the Mediterranean coast, signaling Disney Cruise Line's first-ever foray into the European cruise market. In grand Spanish style, the 2,700-passenger ship was greeted by a fireworks spectacular totaling nearly 2,200-shells upon arrival to the Port of Barcelona. The Port of Barcelona will serve as homeport for the Disney Magic this summer as it embarks on brand new 10- and 11-night itineraries in the Mediterranean. These cruises provide families with a unique and hassle-free way to explore world-famous cities such as Rome, Florence, Naples, Cannes and Barcelona. This is a special way to launch our unique Mediterranean cruises," said Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin. "Our guests have told us they want to explore different parts of the world with Disney Cruise Line, and we're delighted to provide them with an authentic European experience combined with a fun, family-friendly cruise only Disney can deliver." Continuing to offer a diverse array of itineraries, for the summer of 2008, Disney Cruise Line will reposition the Disney Magic to the West Coast for seven-night cruise vacations to the Mexican Riviera. Beginning May 25, 2008, the Disney Magic will sail 12-consecutive cruises from the Port of Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. The celebratory fireworks show in Barcelona was choreographed to music that played upon Disney's rich musical history and celebrated the European destinations the Disney Magic will visit this summer. Thousands of local residents gathered along the Barcelona shoreline to catch a glimpse of the Disney Magic and join the festivities. A chorus of cheers filled the ship's decks when the show paid tribute to the newly released film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." The film made its debut on the Disney Magic later that evening. Disney Cruise Line guests sailing in the Mediterranean will find several new surprises including a brand new stage spectacular at the Walt Disney Theatre, a Mediterranean-themed deck party, European-themed activities for children and family-friendly shore excursions at ports of call. To prepare for the journey, for the first time ever, iPod users can find Mediterranean themed content--port information, travel tips and language guides--plus movies and TV shows in a special travel entertainment store created exclusively by iTunes for Disney Cruise Line. "It was important to add new surprises for our guests during our first-ever European adventure," says Jim Urry, Vice President of Entertainment and Shore Excursions. "We looked for creative ways to showcase the international flavor of our destinations through onboard and excursion activities allowing the entire family to become immersed in the Mediterranean experience." Lavish entertainment is a Disney Cruise Line hallmark, and two notable additions were developed specifically for the Mediterranean sailings. Mickey Mouse's dreams come to life in When Mickey Dreams, a musical spectacle guided by a cast of "dream seekers" at the Walt Disney Theatre. The show's unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills. One night during the cruise, guests will celebrate the summer in the Mediterranean at a carnival-inspired deck party called Party Paradiso. With the help of special effects designed to light up the night, Disney characters and performers ignite the spirit of fun and adventure as guests prepare to explore new horizons. Youth counselors, who are expertly skilled at keeping children of any age engaged and entertained, will weave the cultures of the ship's destinations into many of the children's activities. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including Crêpe-making, puppet-crafting, pizza-baking and mosaic tile-making. Disney Cruise Line established the family market within the cruise industry when the business launched in 1998. The first two ships were purpose built for families to reconnect and recharge while creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime. From a theater featuring live musical spectaculars to a luxurious spa for adults and nearly an entire deck dedicated to children's activities, the ships truly offer something for everyone.

Cruise Line Adds Pizzazz with New Shows, Parties, CELEBRATION, Fla. -- When the Disney Magic crosses the "pond" for its first-ever Mediterranean sailings, deck parties will pop, new shows will "wow," on-board activities, including food and beverage, will feature European flair, and port excursions will be studded with special Disney touches. New deck parties will create a carnival-like atmosphere while lavishly produced Broadway-style shows bring original stories and special effects to the ship's opulent Walt Disney Theatre. Activities for children 3-17 will range from crêpe-making en route to Marseilles to mosaic-designing on the way to Barcelona. Excursions at all the ports will feature special extras exclusive to the Disney cruise experience, such as scavenger and treasure hunts for children. "It was important to add new surprises for our guests during our first-ever European adventure," says Jim Urry, director of entertainment for Disney Cruise Line. "We looked for creative ways to showcase the international flavor of our destinations through onboard and excursion activities allowing the entire family to become immersed in the Mediterranean experience." Entertainment Disney Cruise Line guests will enjoy three new theater productions and several festive deck parties debuting just for guests who embark on the summer's 10- and 11-night cruises to ports in Spain, Italy and France. Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre include: "Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic" (55 minutes) -- This enhancement of one of the ship's most popular stage shows tells the story of a young girl who learns about the power of dreams. Technical advancements, laser and pyrotechnic effects, plus the first-ever appearance of Timon and Pumbaa on a Disney cruise ship, add fresh fun to the performance. "When Mickey Dreams" (50 minutes) -- Mickey Mouse's dreams come to life in this musical spectacle guided by a cast of Cirque-like "dream seekers." The show's unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills. "Disney's The Art of the Story" (50 minutes) -- This celebration of storytelling's magic features more than 20 performers, Disney characters from Mulan to Tarzan and a variety of production numbers from classic Disney films including "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King." "On the Nose" (50 minutes) -- Everyone in the audience can win prizes grand and small during this original game show based on Disney trivia. Dubbed "On the Nose" because every question -- from Disney film trivia to theme-park factoids -- has a number-type answer, the show gives points to audience teams that get the answer "on the nose." Meanwhile, up on deck, guests will enjoy several new high-energy deck parties: Sail-Away Party -- New music, performers and Disney characters add up to a festive new deck party infused with the excitement of each Mediterranean sailing and other exciting journeys to exotic ports of call. Mouse2O -- Hula hoops, bubbles and beach-party dances kick off this afternoon deck party for guests of all ages. Refreshments are served, and guests have a cameo on the big outdoor screen, where Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters keep the party rolling with regular appearances and songs. Party Paradiso -- Disney Cruise Line celebrates its summer in the Mediterranean with a unique deck party held one night each cruise. With the help of special effects designed to light up the night, Disney characters and performers help keep the spirit of fun and adventure alive as guests prepare to explore new horizons. In addition, guests will find other activities with a Mediterranean flair. For instance, throughout the voyage, guests will be able to catch European-themed films in several venues throughout the ship. Families might enjoy watching "The Chronicles of Narnia" or "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" on the jumbo screen while lounging by the Goofy pool. Guests might enjoy some time out of the sun watching "Casino Royale" or "Moulin Rouge" in the plush Buena Vista Theatre or even "Casablanca" or "Under the Tuscan Sun" on their stateroom television. Youth Activities Disney Cruise Line has taken extra care to make sure that the Mediterranean cruises are fun for the entire family. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including:
Food and Beverage Inspired by the spices and flavors of the region, the chefs aboard Disney Cruise Line have prepared a great line of regional specialties, offering guests a chance to discover local tastes of the Mediterranean. Each night, the executive chef will hand-pick a selection of dishes influenced by the regions visited during the voyage, such as cannelloni in Italy or bouillabaisse in France. The chefs in Palo, Disney's Italian-influenced, adults-only restaurant, are inspired by the restaurant's return to its roots, and will prepare regional specialties each evening. Adult guests will also be able to enjoy the tastes of the Mediterranean with an enhanced wine list featuring labels from some local vineyards. Disney sommeliers have tastefully chosen regional wines to accompany the unique menu offerings. A new Wine and Dine menu will have a special focus on "Old World" wines while still offering a great variety of wines from the rest of the world. In addition, wines from Spain, Italy and France will be used to enhance the popular wine seminars on the ship. Shore Excursions Disney Cruise Line offers shore excursions designed with the entire family in mind -- and the Mediterranean cruises will be no different. The Lucca Treasure Hunt in the ancient city of Lucca near the port of La Spezia, Italy, offers riddles and clues to treasure found at various stations located near the main sights and monuments of Lucca. During a visit to the port of Civitavecchia, the Narnia tour delivers guests to the medieval Italian village Narni, where author C.S. Lewis was inspired to pen his timeless masterpiece, The Chronicles of Narnia. In Palermo, children of all ages will love the Palermo for Kids tour which includes a city tour complete with stops at the Ceramic's Laboratory, where kids can paint clay and create their own souvenir, and the Little Theatre, where everyone will enjoy a 30-minute marionette show. Announces Expansion of Successful Cruise Business The Walt Disney Company plans to expand its successful cruise business by adding two new ocean liners, President and CEO Bob Iger announced today. Scheduled to launch in 2011 and 2012, the ships will more than double the passenger capacity for Disney Cruise Line® to meet the sustained demand for Disney's family cruise vacations. The company signed a letter of intent with Meyer Werft shipyard, based in Papenburg, Germany, to negotiate a contract to build the 122,000-ton new cruise liners, which will be two decks taller than the existing 83,000-ton ships, the Disney Magic® and the Disney Wonder®. Each ship will have 1,250 staterooms. Specific design plans and itineraries for the yet-unnamed ships are still in development and will be unveiled at a later date. Since our maiden voyage in 1998, the Disney Cruise Line® has been a huge success for our guests and for our shareholders alike, Iger said. It has brought our unparalleled family vacation experience to the high seas, and has also generated high margins and double digit returns on invested capital. Were excited to announce the expansion of our fleet, which is a logical next step in what is a real growth business for us. Disney Cruise Line® established the family market within the cruise industry when the business launched in 1998. The first two ships were purpose built for families to reconnect and recharge while creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime. From a theater featuring live musical spectaculars to a luxurious spa for adults and nearly an entire deck dedicated to childrens activities, the ships offer something for every member of the family. Disney Cruise Line® continues to grow by attracting passengers who say they would not have cruised if it hadnt been for the Disney brand. Focusing on families has been smart business for us, said Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. More than 95 percent of Disney Cruise Line® guests rate their cruise experience as excellent or very good. Families know they can trust us to provide a quality, immersive Disney experience. As a result, Disney Cruise Line® continually sets sail with the highest load factors in the industry of nearly 150 percent. Similar to the original Disney Cruise Line® ships, the new ships will be a modern interpretation of classic ocean liners of the 1930s. Disney Imagineers drew their inspiration from the original trans-Atlantic ships that featured a dramatic black hull with two funnels and porthole windows. The profile of the ships, with its gentle curves at the stern combined with sleek angles at the bow, are reminiscent of the art deco designs of the era. To add whimsy to the classic design, the Disney ships have the same exterior color palette as Mickey Mouse with black, white, red and yellow. The new ships will feature elegant, detailed Disney scrollwork at the bow and will evoke images of the glamour of the golden age of cruising. Tom McAlpin, the President of Disney Cruise Line®, said, This is an exciting time for Disney Cruise Line®, and we are looking forward to working with Meyer Werft to blend our innovation and creativity with their fine craftsmanship. Meyer Werft has a long tradition of building magnificent ships. We are confident that the result will be ships that take the immersive Disney family-focused cruise experience to an entirely new level. New itineraries Disney Cruise Line®, which traditionally offers 3-, 4- and 7-night Caribbean cruises, has also enjoyed strong demand for new itineraries. Trips to the Mediterranean and to the West Coast have recently set booking records within the company and booked 30-50 percent faster than the existing itineraries at higher prices. With a larger fleet, well have greater flexibility to offer a variety of itineraries, Rasulo said. This is a business that our guests love, and were pleased to give them more options to explore the world with Disney with two new ships.
