Disney Pic of the Week: Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Photographic Innoventions by Scott Thomas

As I outlined in my 2014 Walt Disney World Photo Review, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is going through some changes. The biggest one people who have visited the parks within the last thriteen years will notice is the removal of the large Sorcerer Mickey Hat at the end of Hollywood Blvd. As of last week, the process of removing it from in front of The Great Movie Ride had begun. I would like to bid it a fond farewell as my Disney Pic of the Week.

Seems the search lights are no longer used at the Studios so this photo, taken in 2009, is how I want to remember the Sorcerer Mickey Hat.

  1. I am very sad to see the hat go as it was my favorite park “structure/icon” after the castle of course. I was also sad that they placed the stage in front of it which looks horrible in my last photo shoot the last time i was there with a tear in my eye.

    RIP Sorcerer’s Hat.

  2. My favorite Disney Icon and photo spot….gone forever.

Scott replies: I will miss it, too. I will also enjoy seeing the return of The Great Movie Ride at the end of Hollywood Blvd.
