July 28, 2016
After a major re-imagining, reservations open July 29 for dates beginning August 3 and beyond at Flying Fish on Disney's BoardWalk. The entire interior of the popular restaurant, including the on-stage kitchen, has been redesigned. To go along with the redesign, Chef Tim Majoras, a veteran of the Flying Fish kitchen, has created a new menu. The seafood-centric menu features entirely sustainable fish and shellfish, and includes Chef Majoras' creations such as corn-crusted wild Gulf shrimp, wild Alaskan king salmon and plancha-seared Hokkaido scallops. For carnivores, there's Wagyu filet mignon, Kurobuta pork belly and bison striploin. In addition, general manager and sommelier Stig Jacobsen has crafted a new wine list with nearly 80 selections by the glass. For reservations, visit DisneyWorld.com/dine or call 407-WDW-DINE.

AbracadaBar, the new cocktail lounge adjacent to the Flying Fish on Disney's BoardWalk, is in soft opening. The back story of this lounge describes it as "former stomping ground for the famous magicians, boardwalk illusionists, and lovely magician's assistants of the Golden Age... [on one evening] every single magician in the lounge vanished into thin air, and was never seen again..." Inside, guests will find enchanted magic show posters and mystifying mirrors, vintage props and tricks.

DVC Pool Hopping Exclusion List ExpandsDVC Pool Hopping Exclusion List Expands
July 14, 2016
Silver Creek Springs pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge has been added to the list of resort swimming holes that are excluded from the DVC member pool hopping perk. During most of the year, members staying at Walt Disney World resorts have been permitted to use pools at other resorts, but certain resort pools are excluded from this perk. For many years, the list of restricted pools was limited to Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club and Uzima Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. However, over the last decade many other resort pools have been added to the restricted list. The full list of ineligible pools is currently: Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort; Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge; Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club; Leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas; Lava Pool and leisure pool at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort; Silver Creek Springs Pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge; all resort pools at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Hidden Springs leisure pool at Disney's Wilderness Lodge was demolished in 2015 as part of a resort-wide renovation project that will bring additional Disney Vacation Club villas to the property. Plans call for an additional pool to be added at the Wilderness Lodge. The next pool-hopping blockout period runs September 2-5 over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Swan and Dolphin to Host Sandtastic WeekendsSwan and Dolphin to Host Sandtastic Weekends
July 05, 2016
This August 26-28 and September 2-4, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort will host Sandtastic Weekends, featuring intricately sculpted sand art designed by award-winning world-class sculptors constructed right on the resort's private beach. The event, which is open to the public, will offer a variety of ways to participate, from watching the masterpieces being created up close to learning the tips and techniques of sand sculpting during a clinic. There will also be amateur sculpting contests or you can try to stump the professionals by giving suggestions for speed-sculpting demonstrations, where a piece is created in just 10 minutes. Other activities include games on the beach; a DJ; and to close the day, a campfire and s'mores. If you get hungry, there will be plenty of creations from the resort's food and beverage team available, including the resort's own Phins and Feathers craft beer. On Labor Day, September 5, the resort will hold special tributes to celebrate the Kickoff Classic college football game between Florida State and Ole Miss taking place in Orlando. Fans of each team will find a giant sand sculpture in honor of the game incorporating a tribute to both teams, and the lights on the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort causeway will feature team colors. Coverage of the Kickoff Classic between the Florida State Seminoles and Ole Miss Rebels will be shown on an outdoor oversized projection screen. Overnight accommodations during Sandtastic Weekends start at just $168 per night. To reserve a room or for more information, including a full schedule of events, visit www.sandtasticweekends.com.

Wilderness Lodge Rooms Converting to VillasWilderness Lodge Rooms Converting to Villas
June 17, 2016
Some hotel rooms at Disney's Wilderness Lodge are being renovated and converted to Disney Vacation Club villas. Access has been blocked to the hotel wing on the east side of the Lodge, which is the side closest to the existing villas, now dubbed Boulder Ridge Villas. Elevators that service that wing have been walled off. Trees have been cleared to make way for the cabins that will be on the west side of the resort, the side closest to World Drive. However, not all of the trees have been cut down. It appears a line of trees right near the shoreline have been kept. Although the Hidden Springs Pool has been demolished, excavation work has yet to begin on the new pool. Much of the framing for the new lakefront restaurant building appears to be completed.

June 16, 2016
Walt Disney World has started a test program to offer valet parking at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. A small lot between Bay Lake Tower and the A-frame tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort has been reserved for use by parking attendants only. Previously guests would have to drive to the Contemporary Tower in order to valet park their vehicle. Luggage assistance and curbside check-in are also offered at Bay Lake Tower. No word on how long Disney plans to test this program before they consider making it permanent. Additionally, plans are being considered to alter the bus routes for Disney's Magical Express to include a drop-off at Bay Lake Tower. The current DME drop-off point for guests staying in the Disney Vacation Club villas is outside the main entrance of the Contemporary Tower.
