The Fort Wilderness BookThe Fort Wilderness Book
July 18, 2014
If you were to ask me, “Which Disney resort is your favorite?” I would immediately answer, “Fort Wilderness Campground.” It will probably come as no surprise to you that Carol, a compulsive collector, has saved some keepsakes, mementos and souvenirs from a resort which ranks high on her list of favorites. They were scattered throughout our home, some in her pin collection, some in the Tickle Trunk, some in scrapbooks and others in book cases or file folders. About two years ago she decided to put them all together in her new Fort Wilderness Book. Once she had it all assembled in a large 3-ring binder, we were both pleasantly surprised by some of the treasures she had picked up over the years. Here is a look at a few of the highlights from the Fort Wilderness Book.

Saratoga Springs HistorySaratoga Springs History
July 04, 2014
Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa officially opened May 17, 2004 with a "health-history-horses" theme. The Development Manager for the project was Kevin Cummings, which was ironically appropriate. Cummings was born and raised in Saratoga Springs, New York, the city that was the inspiration for the new Disney Vacation Club resort. In fact, at the time, his twin brother still lived in that historic upstate New York town so Kevin would go back to visit several times during the year, especially to attend the races.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge opened with two highly popular restaurants, Boma and Jiko. With the addition of the Disney Vacation Club at Kidani Village came yet another dining option, Sanaa. While Sanaa may not receive the same notoriety as Boma or Jiko, it offers a truly unique dining experience. In Swahili Sanaa means "work of art," and after dining here it is easy to see why that name is so appropriate.

Humphrey the Bear at Wilderness Lodge Humphrey the Bear at Wilderness Lodge

Disney's Wilderness Lodge Resort is the only Disney resort hotel to have an official mascot, the brown bear. Images and allusions can be found throughout the resort including bear tracks imbeded in the walkways. To make that potentially fearsome mascot more friendly for younger guests, some of the brown bear images are of the Disney animated character Humphrey the Bear, a lovable, overweight brown bear who lives in the fictional Brownstone National Park.

Coronado Springs Resort Tour - VideoCoronado Springs Resort Tour - Video
April 08, 2014
Coronado Springs is a Disney Moderate Resort with a convention center. The complex has 1,917 rooms and suites situated in three villages around a 15-acre lake called Lago Dorado. The foyer has a lovely fountain in its center, but it is the domed ceiling that is the true jewel of the entrance-way. A soft pink glowing light opens into the dome itself... an incredible mural that depicts a gazebo with doves (lots of doves!) sitting/flying amidst a spring flower garden. Themed to the region's urban areas, the Casitas (little houses) offer accommodations amidst plazas, fountains and palm-shaded courtyards. The Ranchos are 2- and 3-story pueblo-style villas that reflect more arid rural regions in a rustic ranch setting, complete with small streams tumbling over a rocky steam bed. On the northern shore of Lago Dorado are the two story Cabanas which reflect the beauty and serenity of Mexico's coastal regions.
