runDisney announces 2019 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend at Walt Disney World

This year was the last year for runDisney's Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side at Walt Disney World. And, presumably, 2017 was the last year for Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Light Side at Disneyland. runDisney has just announced that in 2019 it will host Star Wars Rival Run Weekend at Walt Disney World. Runners will be able to choose which side of the Force they will run for during the race weekend. The dates have been moved up from the third weekend in April to April 4 through 7.

2020 Olympic Trial Qualifier Wins Female Division of 3rd Annual Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort

Vanilson Neves of Sao Paulo, Brazil, won the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon in 1:09:55 and 2020 Olympic Trial qualifier Brittany Charboneau of Denver won the women's division in 1:21:39. Earlier this year Charboneau also won the female division in both the Disney Enchanted Princess 10K and the Walt Disney World Half Marathon. More than 43,000 runners participated in the weekend's events, which included a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and kid's races.

Bibs still available for some runDisney Star Wars Dark Side races this weekend

As of the writing of this blog post, some of the Star Wars Half Marathon - Dark Side races -- the 10K, the half marathon and the First Order Challenge -- still have spots available. Runners should register through Active.com as usual on the runDisney website. Deadlines for Last Chance Registration are 3 p.m. ET on Friday, April 20, for the 10K and the challenge. Runners interested in the half marathon have until noon ET on Saturday, April 21. These deadlines are in place as long as spots remain in the races; they can sell out at any point.

Victor Da Costa Mendoza Celebrates a Fairy Tale Win at the 10th Annual Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend Presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Walt Disney World Resort

Dani Cook of Ft. Collins, CO, won the women's division of the 10th annual Disney Princess Half Marathon with a time of 1:20:31. Victor Da Costa Mendoza from Spain won the men's division in 1:19:03. More than 53,000 runners participated in the weekend's events, with more than 25,000 in the half marathon alone.

Registration open now for new runDisney Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon

Registration is open now for the new runDisney Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon. "Virtual race" refers to a race that can be run in any location, even as part of another actual race. There is no limit on the number of participants in the new virtual race, although there still is a deadline to register: February 28. Runners and walkers can sign up and start running the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon now. The deadline for completion is March 31. Participants are allowed to break up their 13.1 miles over multiple days or run it all at once. As with all runDisney half marathons, runners must be 14 years of age, and everyone must sign waivers online during the registration process. In this case, they must be 14 by March 31.The registration fee for the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon is $59 and it includes a Star Wars finisher medal and a downloadable race bib and finisher certificate.
