Introduction | Attraction | Touring Tips | Kids/Characters | Dining | Shopping | Interesting Facts In honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, the presentation of "Disneyland - The First 50 Magical Years" takes place in the Main Street Opera House. There are exhibits and artwork in the theater lobby, followed by a theatrical presentation which includes interviews with Walt Disney and excerpts from the live Opening Day telecast.
In the lobby of the Main Street Opera House are a series of exhibits on
the history of Disneyland. There are concept drawings, posters,
photographs and other artwork, and a scale model of Disneyland on
opening day in 1955. Other exhibits include a collection of
Disneyland ticket media through the years and tributes to cast
members and imagineers.
Once the doors to the theater open, take a seat in one of the
comfortable (and padded!) theater seats. The 15-minute movie is
hosted by actor Steve Martin, who worked at Disneyland in 1960 in the
Magic Shop - he demonstrates a little sleight-of-hand to prove he
hasn't lost his touch. Donald Duck serves as self-appointed (uninvited)
co-host. The movie includes an "interview" of Walt Disney by Steve
Martin as Walt talks about the idea behind the creation of Disneyland.
A time-lapse sequence follows the progress of the park's construction.
There's also some entertaining excerpts from the live broadcast of
Disneyland's Opening Day ceremonies - illustrating some of the
flubs and follies of live TV.
The movie is shown several times an hour, and the lobby and theater are
very rarely full. While waiting in the lobby for the theater doors to
open, be sure to check out the exhibits.
The theater is a nice cool place to sit and relax on a warm day, and the
seats are quite comfortable. It's a good place to take a break from the
"busyness" of the park, and learn something, too!
ECV or wheelchair users may remain in their chairs - there are
designated rows in the theater for them.
Assistive Listening Devices from Guest Services can be used here.
The closest restrooms are located across around the corner from the Main
Street Bank.
Many kids don't know who Walt Disney is, and this is a great way to
introduce them to him.
There are no characters in the attraction, but Disney characters are
often found in Town Square, especially in the morning. Check the daily
Times Guide for other character Meet and Greet opportunities.
Blue Ribbon Bakery on Main
Street offers baked goods, sandwiches, and drinks.
Carnation Cafe - Table
service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Gibson Girl Ice Cream
Shoppe serves ice cream specialties, from cones to sundaes and
milkshakes.

1964 World's Fair in New York City.
One of the 50 Hidden Mickeys for Disneyland's 50th anniversary
is just inside the door of the Opera House above a photo-mosaic
