NOT FOR KIDS. I hadn’t been since Oct 2009 and it was nothing like it was 10 years ago. In 2009, I took my 4 yr old sons who dressed as a tiny Pan and Hook. We sat on the curb for a delightful parade, did rides at our leisure, and most magical- a cast member engaged them in an impromptu sword fight in the mostly empty streets of Frontierland (back when you could bring swords!) Cast members dumped ridiculous amounts of candy in their bags as we meandered around the park.
I recently tried to repeat the magic with my 4 year old daughter. Miserable. Long lines for candy. Long lines for rides. Long lines for characters. Long lines for food. Worst of all, as we looked for a spot to watch the parade 45 min in advance, I quickly found we were edged out by adults who were angling to see the headless horseman. This event has been marketed into an event for collectors and adult Disney enthusiasts who come for the special edition treats and souvenirs. I’m fine w that, but market it as such. The original “not so scary” moniker implies that this event is kid centric and it’s just not- way too many people.

Pros:

Theming

Cons:

Too crowded

Attended the Not so Scary Halloween Party September 29th. The crowds were terrible. My husband who rented a scooter left as he could not get through the crowds. Ride waits were over an hour so we never got on one ride in the 5 hours we were there. Nothing like previous times we have gone. Absolutely they are selling many more tickets. I am hesitant now for the Christmas party to spend $110 USD which is $154 CAD to be so crowded and have to leave.

Pros:

good name brand candy

Cons:

crowds

We went to the first night in August this year. I have been to many through the years. In the past it was very worth it to spend extra on these tickets. No lines, lots of elbow room, and tons of candy. Always had the best time of our trip. This time it seemed just as crowded as during the day. Long lines and way to many people. We didn't even bother with the candy lines. IF they are still limiting ticket sales, they are letting in FAR more than they have in the past. The way things are, now, it really isn't worth buying the tickets. Disney is not the trip it used to be.

Pros:

Nice fireworks. Great parade.

Cons:

Lines too long. Too many people. People stressed out and nasty. Too much money to pay for an experience that is no longer exceptional.

We attended the Halloween party on Sunday, September 22. When we arrived at 4 pm, the attendance was low. But after we ate dinner at Be Our Guest, we stepped outside and were shocked by the crowd!
It was wall to wall people and we could barely get to the Haunted Mansion.
We decided even though we loved the parade and the special fireworks, it was our last party! I had read the reviews, but thought our mid September Sunday date would be different. But we were disappointed!

Pros:

Parade, fireworks and Sanderson sister show!

Cons:

Large crowds!

This was the first time in 26 visits that we decided to do a special event party. Absolutely never again, the last time we felt we saw crowds like that was on New Years. Everything just feels like a money grab

Pros:

People did great costumes.

Cons:

regular MK fireworks much better if you only have one night. Really felt ripped off F.

Attended the event on Friday, September 13th. The event amounted to a evening of standing in long lines for everything. Received minimal candy and after standing in a long line for candy with the bag open, on multiple occasions was overlooked and received nothing. As is so often the case this appears to have turned into another money grab by Disney with plenty of hype and little benefit for the guests. With long lines for rides, candy and specialty photos it was a very expensive bust for our party of 4. Definitely our first and last time for this event. Too much money for basically a evening of standing in very long lines, no thank you.........

Pros:

The decorations were well done....

Cons:

Cost, crowds, long lines for everything.

We went the first party of the year and it was the most crowded I have ever seen Magic Kingdom and that is including regular days and I don't believe it was sold out. I was disappointed by the new show - it's cute but unless you have a prime spot, you're not going to get much and I miss the old music which encouraged singing along and crowd participation. Also, having to stare at the castle to watch the show kind of forces you to miss the fireworks a bit.

Pros:

The cast, as always, are amazing. Still love the parade (if you can fight the crowds to see it).

Cons:

Enormous crowds, super long wait, not a huge fan of the new firework show.

The cost of this "extra" is marginally worth it. The crowds are really not controlled anymore, a lot of the amazing things that Disney has done to help reduce the crowds (advanced planning using FP+) don't work at the parties. The wait times posted were misleading. We waited in a 40 minute line for less then 15 minutes, and in a 10 minute line almost for 30 minutes. The parade feels crowded, but is good. The fireworks are not an improvement over the old ones (but not any worse).

Pros:

Unique Characters

Cons:

Crowded, long lines, especially long to see unique characters. Less fun entertainment offerings.

We attended 9/29 and the reviews are correct. It was too crowded, which was disappointing. We did enjoy the overlay on Space Mt (total darkness), and the fireworks were good. Other that that, it's not something I'd do again unless Disney lowered the number of tickets.

Pros:

Space Mt overlay Fireworks

Cons:

Too crowded and too expensive

This was the first ticketed event we've attended. I've always heard that the crowds are low and the parties are amazing. I did not get that experience. We arrived at 5:00 to mass chaos just to get into the park and get our bands. We received minimal candy, rode 2 rides and sat from 8:00 - 10:30 in front of the castle, only to have to hold our 5 year old so she could see the shows. We saw no characters as the lines for even Pooh and friends was close to an hour. We thought going on a Sunday night at the beginning of October would produce less people. We waited 30 minutes just go get food at Cosmic Rays at 5:30. Aside from the actual shows and parade, the best parts were seeing other costumes and no line at Joffrey's. It definitely wasn't worth the money.

Pros:

Fireworks show, costumes, Boo To You Parade, Hocus Pocus show

Cons:

WAY too many people
