I Don’t Mean To Sound Like A Broken Record, But This is Why We Tell You to Pack Ponchos for Magic Kingdom

When packing for a day at the Magic Kingdom, it can be tempting to dress and pack only for the best-case weather scenario. The cutest shoes, the most Instagrammable Ears, that picture-perfect Disneybound outfit, etc. Unfortunately, Mother Nature sometimes has other plans.

Looking great!

As anyone who’s ever visited Walt Disney World knows, rain is usually a fact of life in Central Florida, especially during the summer vacation months. In other words, while it may not be “fun”, you should ALWAYS be prepped for rain when heading to the “Most Magical Place on Earth.”

Let’s begin with one of our ESSENTIAL rain items: The Frogg Toggs Poncho.

Emma loves the Frogg Toggs Poncho!

Now, we have tried A LOT of ponchos at Walt Disney World over the years, and this is BY FAR our favorite, especially for the kind of rainy weather you may find in Central Florida… and BEYOND!

In fact, a member of our team shared a story of wearing the Frogg Toggs poncho in the midst of a LITERAL HURRICANE while they lived in Florida! The poncho kept them as dry as possible when taking their dog out to the bathroom, and held on sturdy when they tightened the hood, even in the wind.

This poncho — available on Amazon in multiple colors, including this striking hot pink — had several features that we simply adored. The material allowed the rain to slip right off, and between that and the lack of sleeves, we didn’t feel steamed or hot underneath.

On top of that, the poncho was large enough that our backpack was able to fit underneath it comfortably, while still keeping the bag and our backs completely covered from the rain. If all that wasn’t enough, the poncho even comes with a waterproof storage bag, meaning we were able to quickly pack it up and throw it in our backpack as soon as the storm ended without worrying about anything in there getting wet.

This BAODINI Mini Umbrella can help with the rain… and the sun!

Emma with Mini UV Umbrella

This UV umbrella is made from black glue fabric, which reflects most UV rays, and the black coating on the underside of the canopy absorbs any remaining UV rays, giving an overall UPF rating of 50+. “With a 40-inch arc and a 35.4-inch diameter, this mini travel umbrella is perfect for concealing in your purse or bag when you’re on the go! Folds to an ultra-compact 6.9 inches, making the umbrella great for travel, as this super lightweight umbrella collapses to the size of your palm.” It’s also flexible, lightweight, and made of 6 windproof reinforced fiberglass ribs.

Finally, we have our go-to Shoe Covers!

Time to put these babies on!

Imagine this: You’re at the Magic Kingdom, perhaps with tickets to an after-hours event like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, when a rainstorm moves through and soaks your shoes and socks until they’re DRENCHED! Usually, you’d be left with two choices: Deal with the discomfort and pain until it becomes unbearable or spend big money on the limited selection of shoes and socks in the park. Unless you have these waterproof shoe covers.

Silicone Waterproof Shoe Covers

When we first saw these years ago, we weren’t convinced of their effectiveness… and we were WRONG! They keep our feet – and our tennis shoes – mostly nice and dry, even in the rain. We’d advise sizing up to alleviate any discomfort from the zipper top. One word of warning? They’re not 100% foolproof. If you’ve got an open gap to the top they you’re leaving room for rain to get in, but it’s still much less than the alternative.
