“One Bad Plan After Another.” Disney Fans Have THOUGHTS About the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Retheme

The Muppets are ready to rock, and everyone has THOUGHTS.

Last week, Disney rocked the theme park world when they announced the double-whammy announcement that the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land at Hollywood Studios would be replacing Muppet*Vision 3D, but that the Muppets would remain at Hollywood Studios and take over Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster!

According to Disney, the refurbished thrill ride experience will feature Kermit and co. “taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival!”

As one would expect with any major change at Walt Disney World, fans have a ton of opinions on the Muppet characters booting Aerosmith out of their coaster. Many of our readers let us know their thoughts, and quite a few were divided.

One reader expressed unbridled excitement, writing “I am in tears!!!! I’m so so so so so excited! They are finally giving the Muppets what they deserve! Jim Henson would be thrilled.”

Another reply was also in favor of the change, writing “My daughter and I were talking about how cool it would be for RR to change to the Muppets and not 3 month’s later we read this change. Sad to see Muppet*Vision go but change and growth has to happen” while one reader added “I’m excited about this. I hope they have (Muppet*Vision 3D) on like Disney+ or something.”

One reader was still excited but expressed a bit of mixed feelings about the change due to the potential physical limitations of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster layout. “My husband loves the Muppets show, so for him, I am a bit sad, but I am super thrilled about the Muppets coming to Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster! What a great change! The only downside to that is that smaller kids can’t see the Muppets on that ride. And unfortunately, there will come a day when my husband and I can’t ride that roller coaster anymore. I’m afraid that’s going to come sooner than we want it to. It’s a pretty rough coaster. We are super excited about Monsters, Inc. Land!”

We got another reply expressing a similar sentiment, “I don’t ride most coasters especially ones that go upside down. As a huge Muppets fan, I’m sad I will not get to enjoy this being a coaster. I am glad they are doing something Muppets to keep them alive. Just wish they would not get rid of the movie and instead make additional Muppet attractions. Disney could have done so much to keep the muppets alive through the years. I ran the Disney Muppet-themed 5k a few weeks ago for the Wine & Dine race, and one thing was clear, people want more Muppets at the parks.”

On the other hand, one reader was vehemently unhappy with the announcement, saying “Worried they will just throw a bunch of screens up of Muppets in the roller coaster. The creativity of Muppet*Vision 3D and that whole theater is a sad loss.”

Another joined in and was even more blunt in their assessment, writing “Wow! Disney has been making one bad plan after another. Disney has 100% lost its way. Muppets for this coaster makes [sic] no sense. Muppets is about comedy.”

Kermit!

Finally, we couldn’t help but chuckle at perhaps the most common sense reading of the whole situation, “Gee, a change at WDW and people are upset? Shocking, shocking I tell you. Here’s a thought. Wait until it’s done THEN judge.”

The announcement that the Muppets would be taking over the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster has elicited a wide range of reactions, but one thing’s for sure. We won’t know if the move is successful until the new version of the coaster actually opens. Stay tuned to AllEars for more of Disney World’s upcoming changes.
